Morocco used NSO's spyware to snoop on journalist, Amnesty says

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Technology developed by Israeli cyber security company NSO Group was used by the Moroccan government to spy on journalist Omar Radi, a critic of Morocco’s human rights record, Amnesty International said on Monday.

The organization found that Radi’s phone was subjected to several attacks using a “sophisticated new technique” that silently installed NSO’s Pegasus spyware.

Lack of global leadership is 'greatest threat' in fighting pandemic, says WHO

DUBAI (Reuters) - The lack of global leadership and unity to fight the coronavirus is a bigger threat that the outbreak itself, the head of the World Health Organization said on Monday, adding that politicisation of the pandemic had made it worse.

He did not elaborate but the WHO has been criticised by some members states, especially the United States which says it was too weak, too slow and too “China-centric” in tackling the disease.

Turkish police block lawyers marching to Ankara against bill

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkish police stopped dozens of senior lawyers marching to the capital Ankara on Monday to protest a draft bill governing the organisation of bar associations that they say is aimed at silencing those critical of the government.

President Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party has proposed changes to the associations’ election system that it says will make it more democratic and increase representation from smaller cities.

But the lawyers marching say the move would pave the way for the formation of government-friendly associations.

IAEA inspects Iran’s nuclear centers 33 times a year

Tehran, June 22, IRNA – An international lawyer and university professor said on Monday that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspects Iranian nuclear centers 33 times a year, which is the highest number in the world and shows Iran has had the most cooperation with the Agency.

Mohammad-Reza Hosseini said the US has a few scenarios to pressure Iran and take the issue of the country’s nuclear activities to the United Nations Security Council.

Iranian cargo ship carrying food supplies arrives in Venezuelan territorial waters

22 June 2020; IRNA: Iranian cargo ship Golesan is carrying food and medical supplies to combat coronavirus pandemic, Iran's Ambassador to Caracas Hojjat Soltani wrote on his Twitter page few hours ago.

Iranian-flagged cargo ship left Bandar Abbas on May 15 and now is in Venezuela's territorial waters.

Recently, Iranian oil tankers docked at Venezuela's port after passing the Caribbean Sea to help the friendly nation of Venezuela deal with shortage of fuel caused by the US sanctions against the country.

25,000 die in Med Sea over past 8 years: Erdogan

ISTANBUL 22 June 2020; AA: Some 25,000 people, mostly women and children, have died in the Mediterranean Sea over the last eight years, the Turkish president said on Sunday.

“In the past eight years, 25,000 people, most of them women and children, died in the treacherous waters of Mediterranean,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the closing ceremony of the International Migration Film Festival via video conference.

Turkey sends 6 truckloads of aid to Idlib, Syria

HATAY, 22 June 2020; AA: Two Turkish charities on Monday sent six trucks carrying humanitarian aid to Idlib, northwestern Syria, where millions of people are in need of assistance due to internal conflict in the country.

Truckloads of supplies, including flour, clothing and dry food, by Adana Dosteller and Eskisehir Gunisigi charities, entered Idlib through the Yayladagi border crossing of Turkey's southern Hatay province.

Tripoli government to boycott Arab League Libya talks

22 June 2020; MEMO: Libya’s United Nations (UN) recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) will boycott Arab League talks on the conflict next week, i24 reports.

Libya’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Taher Siala has told the bloc’s executive council that this planned meeting would “deepen the rift” between Arab governments on the issue.

92,000 expats left Kuwait in the past 3 months

22 June 2020; MEMO: More than 92,000 expatriates left Kuwait in April, May and June through Kuwait International Airport, the Director of Operations at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) at Kuwait International Airport, Mansour Al-Hashimi, said.

Al-Hashimi said the expats included residents as well as violators of residency regulations who left aboard 600 flights.
