PLO slams US Ambassador for inciting crimes against Palestinians

7 May 2020; MEMO: The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) has condemned comments by US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman urging the new Israeli government to expedite the annexation of the occupied West Bank. The PLO described Friedman’s words as “deliberate escalation and incitement to commit crimes” against the Palestinians.

Bahrain receives $4.57bn in aid from Gulf neighbours

7 May 2020; MEMO: Bahrain has received $4.57 billion in urgent financial aid from its Gulf Arab neighbours as part of a support package approved in 2018, a government document revealed.

According to the document Bahrain’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to $3.7 billion at the end of December 2019.

The government is expected to withdraw another $1.76 billion from the Gulf support package this year.

Burj Khalifa Dazzles With 393,000 Lights In Four Days Of Donations

DUBAI, May 7 (NNN-WAM) – Within four days of the World’s Tallest Donation Box launch, Burj Khalifa shone bright with 393,000 lights, as donations continue pouring in to support COVID-19-hit communities in the UAE.

The light donations of individuals and companies across the country will secure 393,000 meals to the ’10 million meals’ campaign that aims to provide food support for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mustafa Al-Kadhimi Sworn In As Iraq’s New PM

BAGHDAD, May 7 (NNN-NINA) – Iraq’s prime minister-designate, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, was sworn in as the country’s new prime minister, after weeks of political negotiations.

In a session attended by 266 lawmakers late Wednesday, the lawmakers approved 15 ministers proposed by al-Kadhimi, including Othman al-Ghanmi, as interior minister and Gomaa Enad, as defence minister. The ministers of finance, housing, health, and education were also approved, among others.

Palestine To Sue U.S. For Supporting Israel’s Plans To Annex Palestinian Lands

RAMALLAH, May 7 (NNN-WAFA) – The Palestinian justice minister, said, the Palestinian Authority intends to file lawsuits against the U.S., for supporting Israel’s plans to annex Palestinian lands in the West Bank.

“We are looking for legal mechanisms to hold the U.S. government accountable, in committing war crimes against the Palestinians together with Israel,” Mohammed al-Shalaldeh, said.

The U.S. support for Israel’s plan to annex Palestinian lands in the West Bank is one of these crimes, he noted.

Indiscriminate shelling kills 3 civilians, injures 19 in Libya's Tripoli: official

TRIPOLI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Indiscriminate shelling on Wednesday killed three civilians and injured 19 others in Libya's capital Tripoli, said a Libyan official.

"Indiscriminate shelling hit the Tajura district in eastern Tripoli, killing three civilians and injuring 19 others, including children," Amin Hashemi, information advisor of the health ministry, told Xinhua.

"The shelling was carried out with missiles and targeted the coastal road in eastern Tripoli," Hashemi added.

Qatar to negotiate a margin loan from banks

6 May 2020; MEMO: Qatar’s sovereign fund is borrowing around €7 billion ($7.6 billion) against its stock holdings that will help the world’s top liquefied gas exporter to bolster its cash reserves as energy prices continue to plunge.

The Qatar Investment Authority announced that it is in discussions with banks such as JP Morgan and UBS Group for the margin loan. A deal could rank as one of the biggest ever such transactions in the region, it said.
