Coronavirus claims 1 life in every 12 minutes in Iran: official

TEHRAN, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran's health ministry said on Tuesday that one Iranian is killed by the novel coronavirus in every 12 minutes, official IRNA news agency reported.

Over the past days, the COVID-19 infection has seen an upward trend in the capital Tehran and some other Iranian provinces, according to Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

Palestine slams Israel for ill-treatment of Palestinian workers

RAMALLAH, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Tuesday slammed Israel for the treatment of Palestinian workers.

Palestinian government spokesperson Ibrahim Milhem said that Israel's treatment of Palestinian workers at their workplaces inside Israel under the threat of the coronavirus pandemic is "racist and inhumane."

On Monday, Israeli forces let go of a Palestinian worker near the Beit Sera village's military checkpoint, north of the West Bank, despite his difficult health conditions and without informing him that he was infected with the coronavirus.

Saudi Arabia: G20 virtual summit on COVID-19 to be held on March 26

RIYADH, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi Arabian G20 Presidency will host the virtual G20 Summit on response to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 26, the G20 Saudi secretariat said on Tuesday.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will chair the meeting to advance a coordinated global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its human and economic implications, it said in a statement.

Kuwait sees decline in COVID-19 infections

24 Mar 2020; MEMO: Kuwait has recorded a noticeable decrease in the number of coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours.

The spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, Abdullah al-Sanad, said yesterday that only one new case was recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of those who have COVID-19 in the country to 189.

The new case is a female Kuwaiti citizen who frequently visited the United Arab Emirates.

Saudi Arabia frees hundreds of prisoners amid increase in COVID-19 cases

24 Mar 2020; MEMO: Saudi authorities have released hundreds of prisoners from Al-Shumaisi Prison as 119 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded, bringing the country’s total to 511.

Activists on Twitter shared a video showing what was said to be hundreds of prisoners spreading across the streets after they were released.

They added that most of the released prisoners are people who violated residency regulations or who were convicted in criminal cases.

Fakhoury associate and SLA member assassinated in southern Lebanon

24 Mar 2020; MEMO: Former Khiam prison guard and associate of Amer Fakhoury, Antoine Al-Hayek, was shot dead in the village of Mieh Mieh near the southern Lebanese port of Sidon on Sunday.

No one has claimed responsibility for Hayek’s shooting. Local news outlet MTV reported that Hayek was shot by a silencer-equipped pistol from a close distance inside his local vegetable shop.

Iran’s COVID-19 Death Toll Rises To 1,812; More Mideastern Countries Impose Curfew

CAIRO, Mar 24 (NNN-MEHR) – Iran’s death toll from COVID-19 climbed to 1,812 on Monday, after 127 new deaths were reported. Meanwhile, more countries in the Middle East decided to impose curfew, to curb the spread of the virus.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in Iran, the worst-hit country in the region, climbed to 23,049, up by 1,411 from a day ago. A total of 8,376 of the infected have recovered.

WHO airlifts COVID-19 testing kits in aid to war-torn Yemen

SANAA, March 24 (NNN-XINHUA) — The World Health Organization (WHO) airlifted COVID-19 testing kits and personal protective items for health workers to the war-ravaged Yemen, the UN aid agency said Monday on Twitter.

The shipment included lab screening tests and trauma medicine provided to the health authorities in the government-controlled southern port city of Aden and the Houthi-held capital Sanaa, it said, adding that the shipment aid was airlifted by Saudi Arabia.

Egypt Sanitises Museums, Tourist Attractions Nationwide Over COVID-19 Fears

CAIRO, Mar 24 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said, it started on Monday, to disinfect and sanitise museums and tourist sites nationwide, over COVID-19 concerns.

The campaign, which included so far the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Luxor Museum, the Aswan Museum, and the Tanta Museum, is part of the ministry’s plan to sanitise all museums and archaeological sites, to prevent the spread of the virus.
