Egypt judiciary sentences 112 detainees to life in prison

10 Mar 2020; MEMO: On Monday, the Military Court in Egypt sentenced 112 detainees to life in prison, alleging that they have been affiliated to Hasm Movement that the Egyptian authorities classify as terrorist, and involved in case No. 64 of 2017, Northern Military Prosecution Cairo, known as the Assistant Attorney General or the Case of Hasm Movement (HM).

Hamas condemns ‘oppressive’ trials of Palestinians in Saudi Arabia

10 Mar 2020; MEMO: Hamas yesterday condemned the “oppressive” and “void” trials of Palestinians imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, a statement said.

“With great sorrow and regret Hamas followed up the unfair trials and false charges filed by the Saudi authorities against a number of Palestinians, who have never committed any felony, offence or crime,” the statement said.

Israel forces uproot 400 Palestinian olive trees in Bethlehem

10 Mar 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces yesterday uprooted 400 olive trees in the farms of Wadi Fukin village, west of occupied Bethlehem, Quds Press reported.

Local Palestinian sources reported that the targeted farm belongs to Palestinian farmer Mohamed Al-Harroub.

According to the sources, 800 olive trees and grape vines have been uprooted by settlers over the past two weeks in the farms of Al-Khader neighbourhood, south of Bethlehem.

Iran temporarily frees 70,000 prisoners over Coronavirus

10 Mar 2020; MEMO: Iran has “temporarily” released approximately 70,000 prisoners because of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, Iran has issued about 70,000 prisoners due to the coronavirus outbreak across the country, Iranian judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi announced yesterday.

“The release of the prisoners, to the point where it doesn’t create insecurity in society, will continue,” Iran’s Mizan quoted Raisi as saying.

Israel: Arab MKs undecided on whether to back Gantz

10 Mar 2020; MEMO: Arab Israeli MK Mtanes Shehadeh said yesterday that the Joint List has not recommended chairman of the Blue and White bloc Benny Gantz for premiership yet, Al Watan Voice reported.

“Gantz has not yet decided to meet with the Joint List,” Shehadeh said, adding: “We have preconditions for meeting him.”

Saudi bourse leads Gulf rally as oil prices recover

Dubai, Mar 10 (AFP/PTI) Stock markets in the energy-rich Gulf states made a strong rebound in opening trade Tuesday, led by the Saudi bourse which jumped 5.6 per cent, as oil prices bounced after heavy losses.

Energy giant Aramco, which dominates the Saudi Tadawul market, gained 5.5 per cent after a series of sessions in the red where it tumbled below the price where it listed last December.

Former Iranian Lawmaker Dies Of COVID-19

TEHRAN, Mar 10 (NNN-IRNA) – Mohammad Reza Rahchamani, a former Iranian lawmaker, died of COVID-19, on Monday, Tehran Times daily reported.

Rahchamani, 64 and a reformist politician, died at the Masih Daneshvari Hospital.

Fatemeh Rahbar, a conservative female politician, recently elected for the next parliament, also died of the illness on Saturday.

Since Feb 19, when Iran announced the first cases of COVID-19 infections in the country, at least 10 Iranian officials have died.

Turkish, Russian Military Delegations To Hold Talks On in Idlib's M4 Highway Security

ANKARA, Mar 10 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkish and Russian military delegations, will hold talks in Turkey’s capital Ankara, on Tuesday, to discuss the functioning of a security corridor around key M4 highway, in Idlib province of northwestern Syria.

The meeting will be held with the Russian Military Committee, within the framework of the agreement reached in Moscow on Mar 5, 2020, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Turkey and Russia agreed on a new cease-fire for Idlib, after tensions escalated between Turkish army and the Syrian government and its allies.

Israel’s Confirmed Cases Of COVID-19 Reach 50

JERUSALEM, Mar 10 (NNN-MA’AN) – A total of 11 Israelis were tested positive with COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 50, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health.

Among the 11 new cases, seven have recently returned from Europe.

The ministry noted that, passengers who were on the same flights with the seven were asked to undergo quarantine.

The other four cases were in contact with patients previously diagnosed with the virus.

Pro-Gov’t Forces Detonate Nine Tonnes Of Landmines, Explosives In Yemen’s Hodeidah

ADEN, Yemen, Mar 10 (NNN-SABA) – Pro-government Yemeni forces, detonated around nine tonnes of landmines and explosives, dismantled from several areas in the country’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.

According to a press statement of the pro-government forces, “explosives experts detonated around nine tonnes of Houthi-laid landmines, including marine mines, after completing the dismantling campaign conducted in key areas of Hodeidah.”
