Israel settler growth rate in occupied WB double that of national figure

4 Oct 2019; MEMO: The growth rate of Israel’s settler population in the occupied West Bank during 2018 was double that of the equivalent national figure, reported the Jerusalem Post yesterday.

The settler growth rate remained roughly steady at 3.5 per cent, compared to the national rate of 1.9 per cent, according to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

14 Palestinians homeless as Israel razes homes in Jerusalem

4 Oct 2019; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces demolished three houses and several commercial and agricultural structures in Jerusalem and Beit Ummar, northwest of Hebron, over a 24 hour period, claiming they were built without permits, Arab48 website reported.

The house demolished in Hebron was under construction and was 150 square metres, according to Mohamed Awad, a Palestinian activist.

Palestine becomes member of Arab League’s Human Rights Committee

4 Oct 2019; MEMO: Palestine yesterday gained membership of the Human Rights Committee of the Arab League.

The State of Palestine will be represented by Legal Adviser Majdi Hardan from the Ministry of Justice.

In accordance with the membership, Palestine will be required to report on human rights situations; in particular violations of human rights by the Israeli occupation authorities.

Tendency To Return Home Among Syrian Refugees In Turkey Decreases

ANKARA, Oct 4 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Surveys carried out by Turkish experts showed that, tendency to return home among Syrian refugees is decreasing.

Experts from TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Social Policy Research Centre, presented a briefing to the Turkish parliament’s commission on migration and integration on Oct 2, on the results of recent field surveys with 22,000 Syrians in Turkey.

US sanctions squeezing Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon

BEIRUT (AP) — The conflict between Iran and the U.S. that has created tensions throughout much of the Middle East is now also being felt in Lebanon, where Washington has slapped sanctions on the Iran-backed Hezbollah and warned they could soon expand to its allies, further deepening the tiny Arab country’s economic crisis.

Yemen blood bank bombed by Saudi-led coalition

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: The Saudi-led coalition yesterday admitted it carried out an air strike on a blood bank in the Yemeni capital Sanaa earlier this year by “mistake”.

The attack on the National Centre for Blood Transfusion and Research on 27 April was accidental, according to findings of the coalition’s investigative body, the Joint Incident Assessment Team (JIAT).

Turkey fines Facebook $282,000 over privacy breach

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: Turkish authorities have fined Facebook Inc 1.6 million lira ($282,000) for violation of data protection laws which affected nearly 300,000 people, the Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) said today.

Facebook has been facing a lawsuit in the United States from users seeking to hold the company liable for allowing third parties, including Cambridge Analytica, to access their data.

Saudi: Oil output fully restored after attacks

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has fully restored oil output after attacks on its facilities last month and is now focusing on the listing of its energy giant Saudi Aramco, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman said.

The kingdom’s current oil production capacity stands at 11.3 million barrels per day, he told an energy conference in Moscow today.
