Iraqis Rallied In Baghdad To Condemn Quran Burning In Sweden

BAGHDAD, Jul 1 (NNN-NINA) – Hundreds of Iraqis rallied yesterday, in the capital Baghdad, to protest against the burning of the Muslim holy book, the Quran in Sweden.

The angry protesters, the majority of whom were followers of Shiite cleric, Moqtada al-Sadr, gathered in the Salhiyah neighbourhood, where the Swedish embassy is located, just outside the heavily-fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad.

Iranian FM proposes emergency OIC meeting over Quran-burning in Sweden

TEHRAN, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Friday proposed convening an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to gather foreign ministers of member states to discuss the recent burning of the Muslim holy book Quran in Sweden.

He made the remarks in a phone call with OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha while strongly condemning the "insulting and provocative move" in Sweden, according to a statement published on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website.

Iraqis storm Swedish embassy to protest Quran burning
