UAE calls for dialogue to end violence in Yemen’s Aden

11 Aug 2019; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday called for a “reasonable dialogue” to end armed clashes in Yemen’s southern city of Aden, according to the official WAM news agency, Anadolu Agency reports.

Dozens were killed in clashes between presidential guards of the internationally-recognised government and the UAE-backed Security Belt forces since Wednesday.

Saudi-led coalition launches strike after Aden 'coup'

11 August 2019; AFP: A Saudi-led coalition launched Sunday a strike against southern separatists in Yemen after they seized the presidential palace in second city Aden in deadly fighting that threatened to deepen the country's humanitarian crisis.

The seizure, decried by the Riyadh-backed Yemeni government as a UAE-supported coup, reflects deep divisions between secessionists and loyalist forces, both of whom have fought Shiite Huthi rebels.

Israeli troops kill gunman near Gaza fence

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Latest on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (all times local):

Gaza’s Health Ministry says a 26-year-old Palestinian was killed after exchanging fire with Israeli troops along the perimeter fence surrounding the coastal territory.

The Israeli military says an “armed terrorist” approached the frontier early Sunday and opened fire toward troops on the other side, who responded by shooting at the attacker. The army says a tank also targeted a nearby military post operated by the Islamic militant group Hamas.

Muslims clash with Israeli police at Jerusalem holy site

JERUSALEM (AP) — Muslim worshippers and Israeli police clashed Sunday at a major Jerusalem holy site during prayers marking the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Palestinian medics said at least 14 people were wounded, one seriously, in the skirmishes with police at the site, which Muslims refer to as the Al-Aqsa mosque compound and Jews refer to as the Temple Mount. Police said at least four officers were wounded. Witnesses said at least two people were arrested.

US deploys more military, logistics equipment in Syria

HASAKAH, Syria, Aug 11 (NNN-ANADOLU) The U.S continues to dispatch military and logistics equipment to the terrorist YPG/PKK-occupied area the east of Euphrates River in Syria. 

An Anadolu Agency footage recorded late Friday the fresh U.S. delivery through the Semelka border gate at the Iraq-Syria border.

After passing through the northeast of Syria, the convoy proceeded to internal areas as 70 trucks were carrying armored military vehicles, prefabricated buildings and construction equipment. 

Libya’s warring sides agree on temporary truce in Tripoli battle

BENGHAZI, Libya, Aug 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Rival Libyan forces on Saturday said they had agreed to a temporary truce proposed by the United Nations during the upcoming Muslim Eid al-Adha.

Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA), agreed to the UN-proposed truce on Saturday, according to LNA official Ahmed al-Mesmari.

Khalifa’s forces had been fighting to capture the capital Tripoli from a rival government backed by the UN, leaving thousands of people displaced on the outskirts of Tripoli.

Yemen conflict: Southern separatists seize control of Aden

SANA’A, Aug 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Secessionists who are seeking independence for southern Yemen on Saturday seized the presidential palace in Aden from forces of the Saudi-backed government and tightened control of the southern port city, local sources and media said.

Since Wednesday, fighting has raged in Aden between government troops and separatists.

Aden became the country’s temporary seat of government after Iran-linked Houthi rebels overran the capital Sana’a in late 2014.

‘Our stance remains same as 45 years ago on Cyprus’

Hulusi Akar arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to inspect the troops and to hold a series of talks with TRNC officials accompanied by Turkey's Chief of General Staff and chiefs of the army, navy and air force.

Sudan military cancels death sentences against rebel leaders

10 Aug 2019; MEMO: Sudan’s Transitional Military Council has decided to cancel death sentences against leaders of the north division of the People’s Liberation Movement.

Spokesman for the Military Council, Shamsiddeen Kabbashi, said that the head of the Military Council Abdul-Fattah Burhan cancelled the death sentences against rebel leader Malik Agar, his deputy Yasser Imran and others, Al Khaleej Online reported yesterday.
