U.S. foreign policy leans more to global hegemony than harmony

DAMASCUS, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. foreign policy has always been characterized as choosing hegemony instead of global harmony and cooperation, experts said.

Throughout history, the U.S. "negative" foreign policy was felt in many countries, and most recently in the Middle East.

The U.S. has moved its embassy in May 2018 in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which is a contested territory between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Syrian military kill 10 in Hama province when repelling attack

MOSCOW, May 28. /TASS/: The Syrian government forces have killed ten militants and destroyed a vehicle when repelling an attack by terrorists from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, banned in Russia) in the Hama province, head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides Viktor Kupchishin said on Tuesday.

US national security adviser in UAE amid tensions with Iran

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — President Donald Trump’s national security adviser, a longtime hawk on Iran, is visiting the United Arab Emirates amid heightened tensions across the Persian Gulf.

John Bolton tweeted he had arrived in the Emirates for meetings Wednesday “to discuss important and timely regional security matters.”

Satellite images show crops on fire in Syria rebel enclave

BEIRUT (AP) — New satellite photos obtained on Tuesday show significant damage to Syrian villages and surrounding farmland as a result of a government offensive on the last rebel stronghold in the country.

The images, provided to The Associated Press by the Colorado-based Maxar Technologies, show fires in olive groves and orchards during harvest season around Kfar Nabudah and nearby Habeet, two villages on the edge of Idlib province where the latest fighting has focused.

The fires were apparently sparked by intense bombing in the area.

Massive increase in death sentences in Sisi’s Egypt

28 May 2019; MEMO: Almost 2,500 people, including women and children, have been sentenced to death in Egypt since the 2013 coup in which the democratically-elected government of Mohamed Morsi was overthrown by General Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. At least 144 death sentences have been carried out by Sisi’s government, which started a crackdown on opposition groups when he came to power six years ago, according to new figures published by the UK-based rights group Reprieve.

PLO to host summit in parallel to US-led Bahrain ‘peace’ meeting

28 May 2019; MEMO: Palestinians will host a conference in parallel with the US’ planned peace conference to be held in Bahrain in late June, a senior Fatah official said yesterday.

Speaking to Voice of Palestine radio, Azzam Al-Ahmad said the PLO Executive Committee will decide the exact date of the conference, and work is underway to invite Arab parties.

Iran: No new negotiations with US

28 May 2019; MEMO: Iran sees “no prospect of negotiations with America”, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said today, one day after US President Donald Trump said a new nuclear deal was a “possibility”.

“We do not have any talks with the US, and our basis is on respecting international pacts to which the US can return,” Abbas Mousavi told Fars news agency in Tehran.

Qatar plane lands in Saudi for first time since siege

28 May 2019; MEMO: The plane of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani landed at Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia for the first time since the outbreak of the Gulf crisis two years ago.

Iran’s Guard talks tough, says it has no fear of war with US

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s influential Revolutionary Guard said Tuesday it doesn’t fear a possible war with the United States and claimed that America hasn’t grown in power in recent years — the latest tough talk from Tehran amid escalating regional tensions and a crisis with Washington.

“The enemy is not more powerful than before,” said the Guard spokesman, Gen. Ramazan Sharif.
