Israel occupation forces kill Palestine youth in Al-Aqsa Mosque

01 Apr 2023; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces on Friday night shot dead a Palestinian youth in Al-Aqsa Mosque while he was trying to re-enter the holy site after being removed.

This came after Israeli occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque and evacuated most of the Palestinian worshippers remaining inside.

At the same site of the killing, eyewitnesses stated they saw the Israeli occupation police assaulting a Palestinian woman who was also attempting to re-enter the mosque.

Egypt and Syria commit to closer ties as foreign minister visits Cairo

CAIRO, April 1 (Reuters) - Egypt and Syria agreed to strengthen cooperation on Saturday during the first official visit by a Syrian foreign minister to Cairo in more than a decade, the latest sign of Arab states mending ties with President Bashar al Assad.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad was embraced by Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry as he arrived at Egypt's foreign ministry in the first official trip since before the uprising and conflict that began in Syria in 2011.

Israeli protests over judicial overhaul continue despite Netanyahu's pause

JERUSALEM, April 1 (Reuters) - Protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's judicial overhaul showed no sign of abating on Saturday, despite its suspension by the embattled premier this week, as tens of thousands took to the streets to demand it be scrapped entirely.

Beset by the domestic upheaval and expressions of concern and disapproval in Washington, Netanyahu on Monday paused the overhaul to allow negotiations on a compromise between his religious-nationalist coalition and opposition parties.

Israel probes lethal police shooting at flashpoint Jerusalem holy site

JERUSALEM, April 1 (Reuters) - A man detained by Israeli police near a flashpoint holy site in Jerusalem grabbed an officer's gun and fired it, prompting the unit to shoot him dead, the force said on Saturday, an account doubted by Arab leaders and probed by authorities.

In a separate incident, the Israeli military said an assailant had rammed his vehicle into a group of people, wounding three, near the Palestinian town Beit Ummar in the occupied West Bank. Soldiers opened fire and "neutralized" the suspect, it said.

Raisi says hijab is the law in Iran as unveiled women face 'yoghurt attack'

April 1 (Reuters) - President Ebrahim Raisi said on Saturday that the hijab was the law in Iran after a viral video showed a man throwing yoghurt at two unveiled women in a shop near a holy Shi'ite Muslim city.

Growing numbers of women have defied authorities by discarding their veils after nationwide protests that followed the death in September of a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman in the custody of the morality police for allegedly violating hijab rules. Security forces violently put down the revolt.

Iran condemns Israeli attacks on Syria's Damascus

TEHRAN, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Friday strongly condemned Israeli missile attacks on sites in the Syrian capital of Damascus and the killing of an Iranian officer serving as a military adviser in Syria in one of the strikes.

In a statement published by the Sepah News, the media arm of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the victim was identified as Milad Heidari, a military officer from IRGC.

AU Commission lauds Chinese construction workers for success of China-aided Africa CDC project

ADDIS ABABA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Commission (AUC) has presented letters of appreciation to Chinese construction workers in recognition of their "extraordinary and professional cooperation" in the construction of the China-aided Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) headquarters.

The AUC on Friday lauded members of the Chinese engineering, technical and logistic teams at a ceremony held inside the newly-built premises of the Africa CDC headquarters in the southern suburb of the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
