Hamas urges Azerbaijan to stop normalisation with Israel

31 Mar 2023; MEMO: The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, called Thursday on Azerbaijan to reverse its decision to normalise relations with Israel, saying it would come at the expense of the Palestinian people's rights.

This came a day after Baku opened an embassy in Tel Aviv, after more than 30 years of diplomatic ties.

Sudan: 14 miners dead dozens injured in mine collapse

31 Mar 2023; MEMO: Fourteen miners have died and more than 20 have been injured in a mine collapse in Sudan's Northern state, a senior official in state-owned Sudanese Mineral Resources Company told Reuters on Friday.

Part of a mountainside collapsed near Al Jabal Al Ahmar mine, located 70 kilometres away from Wadi Halfa city, causing the deadly accident on Thursday, Moataz Hajj Nour told Reuters.

Turkey: Erdogan to cut energy prices and increase the minimum wage

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Wednesday, announced that Turkiye would be cutting electricity and natural gas prices while also pledging an increase in the minimum wage, local media says.

According to the report, electricity prices will be lowered by 15 per cent, and gas prices for industrial users will be reduced by 20 per cent in April, Erdogan told the lawmakers from his ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in Parliament.

Palestinians Marked 47th Anniversary Of Land Day Amid Calls To End Israeli Occupation

RAMALLAH/GAZA, Mar 31 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinians yesterday marked the 47th anniversary of the “Land Day,” amid calls to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories that has been going on since 1967.

They also called for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the territories seized by Israel in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

UAE cancels licence for Russia's sanctioned MTS Bank

DUBAI, March 31 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates' central bank on Friday said it will cancel the licence it granted last year to Russia's MTS bank, which was placed under British and U.S. sanctions in February.

Operations at the bank's UAE branch, which is licensed in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, will be wound down within six months under UAE central bank supervision.

A statement from MTS Bank said it will fulfil all settlement obligations to existing customers and guarantee the safety of their funds for six months.

Turkish parliament ratifies Finland's NATO accession as Sweden kept waiting

ANKARA, March 30 (Reuters) - Turkey's parliament approved a bill on Thursday to allow Finland to join NATO, clearing the way for the country to become part of the Western defence alliance as war rages in Ukraine.

The Turkish parliament was the last among the 30 members of the alliance to ratify Finland's membership after Hungary's legislature approved a similar bill earlier this week.

Egypt: U.S. uses tech companies controlling internet to spy on world: report

CAIRO, March 30 (Xinhua) -- While pushing for a ban on TikTok over claims that China uses the popular app to spy on Americans, the U.S. government itself spies on the world by using tech companies that effectively control the global internet, said a report published on the English news website of Al Jazeera.

The U.S. government allows its intelligence agencies to "carry out warrantless spying" on foreigners' emails, phones and other online communications, said the report published on Tuesday.
