US human rights report ignores assassination of Shireen Abu Aqleh

Saudi Arabia releases US national Almadi from prison, says son

RIYADH, March 21 (Reuters) - Saudi authorities released on Tuesday a U.S. citizen jailed for 19 years for posting criticism of the government on Twitter but he remains banned from travelling, his son said, as the kingdom moves to ease tension with the United States.

Saad Ibrahim Almadi, 72, was jailed for 16 years by a criminal court in 2022 and an appeals court increased his sentence to 19 years last month.

His son, Ibrahim, told Reuters his father was at his home in Riyadh with his family.

3.4 mln children in Ethiopia out of school due to conflict, climate shocks: UN

ADDIS ABABA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- More than 3.4 million children across Ethiopia do not have access to school, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) disclosed late Monday.

In an Ethiopia Situation Report, UNOCHA said more than 3.4 million children including 1.7 million girls do not have access to school due to the impact of conflict and climate shocks across the east African country.

Palestine: Israel shuts Voice of Palestine radio offices in occupied East Jerusalem

20 Mar 2023; MEMO: Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, on Monday ordered the closure of the Voice of Palestine radio station's offices in Occupied East Jerusalem and Israel, Anadolu News Agency reports.

A statement by Ben-Gvir's office attributed the move to incitement against Israel by the Palestinian radio.

According to an Anadolu reporter, a number of staff working for the radio station were summoned by Israeli police for questioning.

Israel: Netanyahu softens judicial overhaul but showdown with top court looms

Jordan slams Israel Minister over use of 'Greater Israel' map

20 Mar 2023; MEMO: Jordan, on Monday, condemned the use of a map of Israel by an Israeli Minister which included sovereign Jordanian territory, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Far-right Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, addressed an event in Paris on Sunday while standing by a map of "Greater Israel", portraying Jordan as part of the self-proclaimed Jewish State.
