Lebanon won maritime dispute with Israel, claims Hezbollah

17 October 2022; MEMO: Lebanon has won its dispute with Israel over the disputed maritime border, the head of Hezbollah's political council, Ibrahim Amin Al-Sayyed, claimed yesterday.

"Thanks to the resistance and the unified national stance," Al-Sayyed told Russia Today, "Lebanon has won the dispute about the border and its undersea resources without needing to go to war."

Iraq: prime minister designate vows to combat corruption

17 October 2022; MEMO: Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Shayaa Al-Sudani pledged on Sunday to combat rampant corruption in state institutions, following reports that $2.5 billion has been embezzled from the trust account of the General Commission of Taxes held at the Rafidain Bank.

"We will never hesitate to take real measures to curb corruption, which has brazenly spread across state institutions," insisted Al-Sudani. "We have put this file at the top of our priorities. We will not allow the Iraqis' money to be stolen."

Palestine: Nablus siege will remain 'indefinitely,' says Israeli official

17 October 2022; MEMO: An Israeli security official said yesterday that the siege imposed on the occupied Palestinian city of Nablus would "remain in effect indefinitely."

Israeli broadcaster Kan quoted the official as saying that there had never been any "armed attack emerging from Nablus' siege," stressing that the blockade would remain "as needed."

Iran Says “Enemies” Highlighted Solely Enrichment Part Of Its Nuclear Programme

TEHRAN, Oct 16 (NNN-IRNA) – The spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), said yesterday that, uranium enrichment constitutes only part of Iran’s nuclear activities, but the “enemies” seek to solely highlight it.

Making the remarks in an address to a meeting, Behrouz Kamalvandi added, the country has done good work in the fields of producing radiopharmaceuticals and agriculture, according to the AEOI’s website.

Raisi blames Biden for inciting "chaos and terror" in Iran

DUBAI, Oct 16 (Reuters) - President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday blamed his U.S. counterpart for inciting "chaos, terror, and destruction" in Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported, amid protests that have rocked the country for the past four weeks.

"The American president, who allows himself through his comments to incite chaos, terror and destruction in another country, should be reminded of the eternal words of the founder of the Islamic Republic, who called America the great satan," Raisi said.

Turkish prosecutors launch probe into mine blast in N. Türkiye

ANKARA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Five prosecutors were appointed to investigate an underground coal mine explosion that killed 41 workers in northern Türkiye, the country's Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said Sunday.

"I would like to express clearly to the public that this incident will be investigated and clarified in all its aspects. No matter how many questions there are, they will all be answered," he said.

Palestinian dies from wounds after clashes with Israeli soldiers: medics

RAMALLAH, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man succumbed to the wounds sustained from Israeli soldiers' gunfire in the village of Qarawat Bani Hassan, near the West Bank city of Salfit, Palestinian medics said on Sunday.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement that Mujahid Dawoud, 30, from the village, succumbed to critical wounds early on Sunday.

On Saturday afternoon, five Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the village of Qarawat Bani Hassan, including Dawoud, who suffered severe wounds in the chest.

Iran supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries including Azerbaijan and Armenia, and this approach is the permanent policy of Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov on Saturday.

CAIRO (AP) — A towering blaze at a notorious prison housing political prisoners and anti-government activists in Iran’s capital killed four inmates, the country’s judiciary said Sunday.

Flames and smoke rising from Tehran’s Evin Prison had been widely visible Saturday evening, as nationwide anti-government protests triggered by the death of a young woman in police custody entered a fifth week. In online videos, gunshots and explosions could be heard in the area of the prison.

The blaze was extinguished after several hours and no detainees escaped, state media said.
