China: Old Summer Palace launches restoration of historic relics

BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua): Beijing's Yuanmingyuan, or the Old Summer Palace, has recently launched a large-scale restoration project to repair broken cultural relics that had been unearthed, according to China Central Television.

Six pieces of porcelain are part of the first batch of cultural relics to be repaired, including two bowls used during the reign of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Chinese deputy FM conferred Pakistan civil award Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing Monday hosted a special investiture ceremony wherein Vice Foreign Minister of China Kong Xuanyou was conferred Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam, the civil award of Pakistan.

Ambassador of Pakistan in China Masood Khalid conferred the award, on behalf of the President of Pakistan, in recognition of Kong Xuanyou’s services towards Pakistan and further strengthening of Pakistan-China relations, said a press release received here.

Prolonged drought disheartens Namibian farmers

WINDHOEK, May 13 (Xinhua): When there is a prolonged dry spell, the sea of withered amber crops becomes a common sight in the northern part of Namibia.

Every day before the sun was up, Liina Mupopya from Oshana region in northern Namibia came to observe her pearl millet field. However, the sight of withered crops disheartened her.

"The rain is delayed and some crops become withered. Some have not even germinated," said Mupoya.

Namibia had been experiencing droughts since 2013, affecting about 60 percent of the households dependent on crop farming and agriculture.

Saudi Arabia's key oil pipeline hit by drones

KUWAIT CITY, May 14. /TASS/: The central oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia has been hit by drones, Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid al-Falih said on Tuesday.

"The East-West Crude Oil Pipeline has been attacked by explosive-laden drones," the Beirut-based Al Mayadeen TV channel quotes him as saying. "The national Saudi Aramco company halted oil pumping in the pipeline."

At the same time, al-Falih did not specify who could have been behind the attack.

Saudi Arabia confirms 2 Saudi oil tankers part of sabotage attack

RIYADH, May 13 (Xinhua): Saudi Arabia confirmed on Monday that two of its oil tankers were part of the sabotage attack on Sunday in the waters near the United Arab Emirates, off the coast of the emirate of Fujairah.

The Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, Khalid Al-Falih, confirmed in a statement through Saudi Press Agency that the two oil tankers were attacked while on their way to cross into the Gulf.

The attack didn't lead to any casualties or oil spill; however, it caused significant damage to the structures of the two vessels, the minister said.

India: Seven-yr-old allegedly raped, killed in UP

Lakhimpur Kheri, May 13 (UP) A seven-year-old girl was killed after allegedly being raped Monday in a village here, police said.

The body of the victim was recovered in the morning and a case was registered against a man,

Deputy Superindent of Police (DSP) Vijay Anand told reporters.

The DSP said the accused was arrested and confessed to committing the crime.

He added the body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation was on.

India: Woman raped at hospital in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 14 (PTI) A 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a civic-run hospital here by a man on the pretext of helping her fill a fee concession form, a police official said on Tuesday.

The accused, Deepak Annappa Kunchukurve, 31, a resident of Dharavi area here, has been arrested, he said.

The alleged incident took place last Friday on the fifth floor of the Sion Hospital building, he said.

Youth jumps to death after tiff with wife

Kanpur: One youth committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of a house in Chakeri area here on Monday night. He was disturbed and restless following his altercation with the wife on some matter in the evening of Monday. 

His jump brought loud voice so the neighbors rushed to save him. They even took him to the hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. 

According to the police, Santosh Nishad (36) r/o Safipur First was employed at a factory. His altercation with the wife Anita led her to go to her parents' house in Chhabiley Purwa.

2 killed, 11 injured in bomb blast in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (Xinhua): At least two policemen were killed and 11 others injured on Monday evening in a bomb blast in Quetta district of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, a provincial minister said.

Provincial Interior Minister Mir Zia Langau said the blast hit a police mobile near a market in the Satellite Town area of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.

India: 14-yr-old boy held for raping minor girl in Maha

Shirdi, May 13 (PTI) A teen-aged boy was detained for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl at the Shirdi temple town in Maharashtra's Ahmedanagar district, police said on Monday.

The boy, aged 14 years, took the girl to an isolated spot at Nimgaon village, located around three km from here, where he allegedly raped her on Sunday evening, Shirdi police station in-charge Anil Katake said.

The girl later informed about the incident to her parents who approached the police, he said.

India: Police constable's wife raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 14 (PTI) A police constable's wife was allegedly raped by a man in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan, police said Tuesday.

The woman alleged that the accused Suresh clicked objectionable pictures of her and was blackmailing and raping her for the last four months, SHO of Kotwali Police Station Chandman said.

The woman and the accused were known to each other.

A case was lodged on Monday and a hunt launched for the accused.
