India: Tharoor summoned by Delhi court over 'scorpion' remark

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) A court here Saturday summoned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on June 7 on a complaint over his remarks that an unnamed RSS leader had compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "a scorpion sitting on a Shivling".

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal was hearing a criminal defamation complaint filed against Tharoor by Delhi BJP leader Rajeev Babbar, who has said his religious sentiments were hurt by the Congress leader's statement.

Indian Polls: Does PM considers people as bunch of idiots?

New Delhi, Apr 28 (PTI) Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his stance on caste and his "origins as a chaiwala", senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday asked if the PM considers people a "bunch of idiots" who have suffered memory loss.

The former finance minister's scathing attack on the Prime Minister came a day after Modi said in Kannauj that he does not believe in politics of caste.

Colombia's oil pipeline under new attack

BOGOTA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Colombia's state oil company Ecopetrol said Saturday that the Transandino Pipeline (OTA) has been bombed.

It has been the seventh attack against OTA so far this year. The attack happened in a village in Colombia's southern province of Narino.

The oil firm said on its Twitter account it activated a contingency plan following Friday's attack. "The attack resulted in a ruptured pipe and an oil spill," it said.

India: Complaint filed against Rahul Gandhi over 'Chowkidar chor hai' slogan

Ara (Bihar), Apr 27 (PTI) A complaint was filed against Rahul Gandhi in a local court on Saturday alleging that the Congress president's slogan 'chowkidar chor hai', which he made people chant at a rally in Samastipur district the previous day, was tantamount to sedition.

The complainant Satyavrat, a local advocate, also named RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who shared the stage with Gandhi at the rally, as a co-accused in the complaint wherein he has named a couple of news channels and the District Magistrate concerned as witnesses.

India: UP Board results not so better in Kanpur district

Kanpur: Neither the guardians, nor the principals nor the educationists are satisfied with the class 12 results of the UP Board. It was viewed as the worst result in the past five years. The percentage which was recorded 88.83 in the year 2015 has lowered to 71.81%. Even the 12% decrease has been registered in comparison to the last year. This was what has been described as the most disappointing trend.

Indian Polls: BJP lodges complaints with EC against Kejriwal

New Delhi, April 27 (PTI) The BJP Saturday lodged complaints with the Election Commission against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for "misguiding" voters through FM radio advertisement, and distorting party chief Amit Shah's statement on illegal infiltrators.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kaoor in a complaint letter to the Election Commission objected the content of the AAP's FM radio advertisement.

Russia ready for dialogue on nuclear disarmament

Sri Lankan president bans radical groups following Easter explosions

COLOMBO, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena banned the National Thawheed Jammath (NTJ) and another radical group suspected to be behind the Easter Sunday explosions which killed over 250 people and injured 500, the President's Office said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement said that under the emergency regulations, President Sirisena had taken steps to declare the NTJ and Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) in Sri Lanka as banned organizations.

Trump withdraws from ‘arms trade treaty’, says its misguided

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says he’s withdrawing the U.S. from an arms trade treaty because it’s “badly misguided.” He made the announcement in a speech to the National Rifle Association. The move comes as pro-gun legislation is largely stalled in Congress and Trump is imploring the NRA to rally behind his re-election bid.

President Barack Obama signed the pact, which has long been opposed by the NRA, in 2013. But it has never been ratified by U.S. lawmakers.
