British PM approves Huawei role in 5G network

24 Apr 2019; AFP: British Prime Minister Theresa May has given the go-ahead for China's Huawei to help build a 5G network, shrugging off security warnings from senior ministers and Washington, the Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

The country's National Security Council, which is chaired by May, agreed Tuesday to allow the Chinese technology giant limited access to build "non-core" infrastructure such as antennas, the report said.

USA: Wing Aviation gets FAA OK for drone deliveries

WASHINGTON (AP) — Google affiliate Wing Aviation has received federal approval allowing it to make commercial deliveries by drone.

It’s the first time a company has gotten a federal air carrier certification for drone deliveries.

The approval from the Federal Aviation Administration means that Wing can operate commercial drone flights in part of Virginia, which it plans to begin later this year.

Israeli forces demolish home of Palestinian in West Bank

JERUSALEM, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces demolished early on Wednesday the residential home of a Palestinian suspected of killing an Israeli soldier and a civilian in the West Bank in March.

Bulldozers accompanying by Israeli army troops, Border Police officers, and the Civil Administration personnel carried out the demolition of the apartment of Omar Amin Abu Lila in the village of a-Zawiya, southeast of Qalqilya, an Israeli military spokesperson said in a statement.

Oil prices climb in wake of Iranian oil sanctions decision

NEW YORK (AP) — Global oil prices are rising in the wake of President Donald Trump’s decision to impose sanctions on nations that import Iranian oil and could eventually climb to levels that would impact American consumers.

Analysts said Tuesday that by taking Iranian crude off the market, the price of Brent crude oil — which is traded internationally — could rise to $80 per barrel or higher, depending on what happens in other countries where supply is at risk.

Egypt's constitutional changes approved in referendum

24 Apr 2019; DW: National Election Authority head Lashin Ibrahim told a Cairo press conference on Tuesday that of the 44.33% of Egypt's voters who turned out to cast their ballots during the three-day referendum, 88.83% of them approved the amendments.

"These (changes) are effective from now as your constitution," Ibrahim said.

Almost 27 million votes were cast out of an eligible base of 61 million voters.

Defiant China to soften blow of Trump's Iran oil decision

24 Apr 2019; DW: Oil prices surged to a nearly six-month high after the US government said it would not extend sanctions exemptions to countries importing oil from Iran when they expire in early May.

Eight governments — India, China, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan — had been given six months to wean themselves off Iranian oil. Greece, Italy and Taiwan are believed to have eliminated imports from Iran. 

Trump will not release tax returns to Congress: White House spokesman

WASHINGTON, April 23 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump would not release his tax returns to Congress though House Democrats set Tuesday as the deadline for him to do so, a White House spokesman said.

"As I understand it, the president is pretty clear, once he's out of audit, he'll think about doing it, but he is not inclined to do so at this time," White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said in an interview on Fox News on Tuesday.

NASA's InSight lander detects 1st likely Mars' earthquake

LOS ANGELES, April 23 (Xinhua) -- NASA's Mars InSight lander has measured and recorded for the first time ever a likely "marsquake," said a release of NASA on Tuesday.

The faint seismic signal, detected by the lander's Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS) instrument, was recorded on April 6, the lander's 128th Martian day.

This is the first recorded trembling that appears to have come from inside the planet, as opposed to being caused by forces above the surface, such as wind, according to NASA.

Syria demands withdrawal of foreign troops in Syria illegally

India: SC directs Gujarat govt to give 50 lkh compen, job, accom to Bilkis Bano

New Delhi, Apr 23 (PTI) The Supreme Tuesday directed the Gujarat government to give Rs 50 lakh compensation, a job and accommodation to Bilkis Bano who was gang raped during the 2002 riots in the state.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Rajan Gogoi was informed by the Gujarat government that action has been taken against the erring police officials in the case.

Saudi Arabia executes 37 citizens for 'terrorism'

24 Apr 2019; DW: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday executed 37 of its citizens who had been convicted of "terrorism," the Interior Ministry said.

The death penalty was given for charges including adopting extremist terrorist ideology, the formation of terrorist cells, attacking security offices using explosives and killing a number of security personnel.
