Six possible locations announced to host U.S. Space Command

WASHINGTON, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Air Force has downsized the list for possible locations for the U.S. Space Command to six, U.S. media reported Saturday.

Four of the locations are in the midwestern state of Colorado, one in the southern state of Alabama and another in the western state of California, according to the Stars and Stripes.

AU urges concerted efforts against hate speech, xenophobia in Africa

ADDIS ABABA, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council on Saturday urged African countries to exert more concerted efforts against an increasing trend of hate speech and xenophobic attacks in Africa.

The council made the call in a statement issued on Saturday following decisions made during its recent meeting under the theme "Prevention of the ideology of hate, genocide and hate crimes in Africa."

North Macedonia ready to face increased pressure at border with Greece

SKOPJE, April 6 (Xinhua) -- North Macedonia's authorities are monitoring the situation at the southern border with Greece and are ready to face with increased pressure, North Macedonia's Defense Minister Radmila Shekerinska said on Saturday.

Shekerinska was responding to reporters following the protests staged on Friday by hundreds of refugees and migrants in Greece, near the border with North Macedonia.

India: Farmer commits suicide over crop failure in Maharashtra

Yavatmal, Apr 7 (PTI) A 24-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide at a village in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, police said on Sunday.

A family member claimed that the deceased, Shreejit Vilasrao Hathe, was under stress due to his crop failure.

Hathe allegedly hanged himself to a pole in front of his house at Wadgaon village in Ralegaon tehsil on Saturday, a police official said.

India: Disappointed BJP vice-president quits party

Jammu, Apr 6 (PTI) Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, a senior J-K BJP leader Saturday quit the party, disappointed over its "failure" to fulfil promises made to the SC, ST and OBC communities in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir vice-president of the BJP's SC morcha, Narinder Kesar said that he along with his supporters had worked hard to ensure the saffron party's victory in the 2014 elections.

Malaysia, Singapore reach agreement on settling airspace dispute

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia and Singapore reached an agreement on settling an airspace dispute on Saturday after several months of negotiations.

According to a statement by Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and his Singaporean counterpart Khaw Boon Wan, Singapore will withdraw the Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedures for its Seletar Airport and Malaysia will indefinitely suspend its permanent Restricted Area (RA) in Pasir Gudang town in Johor state, which neighbors Singapore.

India chose lower target for A-SAT test to avoid space debris threat

New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) India chose a much lower orbit of less than 300 km during Mission Shakti for "capability demonstration" and to avoid threat of debris to global space assets, DRDO Chairman G Satheesh Reddy said Saturday.

His remark comes days after NASA raised concerns about the spread of debris from the Anti-Satellite Test (A-SAT) test India conducted on March 27.

Reddy, at a briefing held at the DRDO Bhawan here, said the interceptor had the capability to intercept satellites in orbit of 1,000 km.

India: EC bans all political advertisements on poll day

Guwahati, Apr 7 (PTI) The Election Commission has banned all political advertisements in newspapers on poll day and preceding day of the polling unless it is pre-certified from the concerned authorities at state or district level.

According to a press release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam on Sunday, no political party or candidate shall publish any advertisement in print media on poll day or one day prior to the poll day in all the phases.

India: I-T searches 50 locations linked to MP CM Kamal Nath

New Delhi/Bhopal, Apr 7; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The Income Tax Department Sunday launched pre-dawn searches on at least 50 locations in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh against people linked to state Chief Minister Kamal Nath on charges of alleged tax evasion, officials said.

A team of about 200 I-T department and police officers swooped down on these premises around 3 am and some undisclosed cash was recovered, they said.

The searches are linked to suspected movement of hawala money during the ongoing polls season and tax evasion, they said.
