Experimental water purifying plant opens in Australia

SYDNEY, April 8 (Xinhua) -- An experimental facility launched in the Australian State of Queensland on Monday will test a new way to purify bore water, industrial wastewater and sea water for drinking.

For the past three years, researchers from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), along with Japanese chemical conglomerate Asahi Kasei, have worked to develop a method by which solar energy or industrial "waste heat" can be used to desalinate water samples.

Secretary of homeland security to step down: Trump

WASHINGTON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump Sunday tweeted that Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen "will be leaving her position."

Ccurrent U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan will become acting secretary for the department, Trump said in another tweet.

The announcement came after U.S. news outlets reported that Nielsen was set to hand in her resignation letter Sunday evening at a meeting with Trump.

UK's Prince William spends three weeks with British security services

The Duke of Cambridge spent time at the domestic intelligence service MI5, foreign intelligence MI6 and the cybersecurity agency GCHQ.

"Spending time inside our security and intelligence agencies, understanding more about the vital contribution they make to our national security, was a truly humbling experience," William said.

Nigeria bans mining activities in the northern state of Zamfara

ABUJA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Sunday suspended all forms of mining activities in Zamfara, a northwestern state of the country.

The government also ordered all foreigners engaged in mining activities to leave the area within 48 hours, acting Inspector General of Police Muhammed Adamu told reporters in the capital of Abuja.

The order was part of measures to check banditry in the state, the police chief said.

India: NYAY (justice) at the core of Congress campaign: Rahul

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the concept of "NYAY" is at the core of its campaign for the Lok Sabha polls and builds on the promises the party has made to the people.

The Congress on Sunday announced 'Ab Hoga Nyay' as its battle cry for the Lok Sabha polls and launched a campaign centred around the theme of 'justice', while alluding to the party's proposed minimum income scheme and the 'anyay' (injustice) "prevailing under the BJP rule".

Indian Polls: RJD releases manifesto, promises reservation

Patna, Apr 8 (PTI) The RJD on Monday released its manifesto, titled 'Pratibadhta Patra', promising reservation for SCs, STs, EBC and OBCs in proportion of their population in the private sector and the higher judiciary.

The ceiling - a 50 per cent cap - had been broken after giving 10 per cent quota to the weaker sections among the general category so the people belonging to these categories (SCs, STs, EBC and OBCs) should be given reservation on the basis of their population, party leader Tejashwi Yadav said while releasing the manifesto here.

India: Computerized water system to help rly passengers

Kanpur: CNB will soon have a computer operated quick watering system to fill up the water tank in the train coaches. As many as 66 railway stations of the North Central Zone will be covered under this project underway with a cost of rupees 23 billion after the approval of the Railways Board. 

A water tank with a capacity of 1800 litres will be filled within five minutes. At present only 50 litres of water is filled in one minute. 

Indian Polls: BJP launches manifesto

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) Calling the BJP's manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls a "vision document", head of the party's manifesto committee Rajnath Singh on Monday said the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fully committed on nationalism and zero tolerance towards terrorism.

The BJP manifesto was released by Modi on Monday in the presence of the party's top brass.

"Our 'Sankalp Patra' is a vision document that lists the expectations of 130 crore Indians," Singh said.

Venezuela’s electricity system was attacked from Chile, Columbia and US

CARACAS, April 7. /TASS/. The Venezuelan system of electricity generation and distribution was attacked not merely from the United States but also from South American countries, President Nicolas Maduro said at a rally in the capital of the country.

"I have already said that we confirmed the version of attacks governed from Houston and Chicago during the investigation," Maduro said. "We found new sources [of aggression] from Chile and Columbia, used to damage the power system of Venezuela," he noted.
