Austria's Kurz criticizes Macron's 'utopian' vision of Europe

12 Mar 2019; DW: Austria's conservative chancellor Sebastian Kurz on Tuesday responded to French President Emmanuel Macron's ambitious vision on the future of Europe, saying some of the proposals could even be "dangerous." 

Macron's statement, which was published last Tuesday in major newspapers in every EU country, criticized populism while outlining a vision for EU social and regulatory reforms.

Trump vs. California immigration suit heads to appeals court

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Trump administration will try to persuade a U.S. appeals court on Wednesday to block California laws aimed at protecting immigrants, seeking a win in one of numerous lawsuits between the White House and the Democratic-dominated state.

At issue in the hearing before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is a 2018 administration lawsuit over three California laws that extended protections to people in the country illegally.

Many European countries ground Boeing 737 Max 8

BRUSSELS, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Many European countries announced on Tuesday to ground Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft following an Ethiopian Airlines plane crash on Sunday.

The Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 bound for Nairobi, Kenya, crashed shortly after taking off from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, killing all 157 people on board, drawing renewed scrutiny of the plane after an 2018 crash of the same model in Indonesia claimed 189 lives.

German FM in Pakistan: 'decisive' in reducing South Asia tensions

UN probing N Korea sanctions violations in 20 countries

United Nations, Mar 12 (AP) UN experts say they are investigating possible violations of United Nations sanctions on North Korea in about 20 countries, from alleged clandestine nuclear procurement in China to arms brokering in Syria and military cooperation with Iran, Libya and Sudan.

The expert panel's 66-page report to the Security Council, obtained Monday by The Associated Press, also detailed the appearance in North Korea of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Mercedes-Benz limousines and Lexus LX 570 all-wheel drive luxury vehicles in violation of a ban on luxury goods.

European agency bans Boeing 737 MAX 8 from airspace

12 Mar 2019; DW: The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) later said it would be grounding all flights involving the plane, widening a prohibition to all EU member states.

Germany had earlier banned flights by the Boeing 737 MAX 8 in its own national airspace, becoming one of several countries to do so after last Sunday's Ethiopian Airlines crash.

Ayodhya dispute mediation starts in Faizabad

Twenty-five litigants in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case along with their counsels appeared on Wednesday before a Supreme Court-appointed mediation panel, in Faizabad, officials said.

According to a report in The Hindu, the district administration of Faizabad issued notice to 25 litigants on behalf of the Supreme Court-appointed panel.

Indian PM Modi is chaos: Sibal

New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) A day after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the choice before voters in the general elections would be either "Modi or chaos", senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Tuesday hit back saying "Modi is chaos".

Jaitley, in a blog, had said Monday the 'Mahagathbandhan' is a self-destructive 'coalition of rivals' and the choice before voters in the general elections would be either "Modi or chaos".

India: Huge quantity of explosives seized from Naxal terrorists

Dumka (Jharkhand), Mar 12 (PTI) Security forces recovered a huge quantity of ammunition and explosives from a village in naxal-affected Dumka district Tuesday, police said.

A total of 104 live cartridges of 7.62 bore rifle, 393 cartridges of .303 rifle, one magazine of a carbine, a walkie-talkie and 100 kgs of explosives were seized from Suklatola village inside a jungle under Kathikund police station limits.

The explosives hidden in a container were meant to target security personnel, Superintendent of Police Y S Ramesh said.

Democracy in Kashmir captive to whims of rulers: NPP

Jammu, Mar 12 (PTI) Accusing the BJP-led government at the Centre of delaying assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, National Panthers Party Tuesday said the denial of democratic rights to people could prove counterproductive.

NPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh rued that the assembly elections was deferred in Jammu and Kashmir on "flimsy excuses" of security constraints.

Russian Ground Forces’ commander arrives in New Delhi for working visit
