China vows to continue support for Lebanon's military

BEIRUT, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian said on Monday that China will continue to support the Lebanese army, the National News Agency reported.

"China intends to approve donations for Lebanon's military institutions," Wang said.

Wang's remarks came during his meeting with Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Bou Saab to congratulate him on his new role in the new government.

Second man seems to be free of AIDS virus after transplant

SEATTLE (AP) — A London man appears to be free of the AIDS virus after a stem cell transplant, the second success including the “Berlin patient,” doctors reported.

The therapy had an early success with Timothy Ray Brown, a U.S. man treated in Germany who is 12 years post-transplant and still free of HIV. Until now, Brown is the only person thought to have been cured of infection with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Such transplants are dangerous and have failed in other patients. They’re also impractical to try to cure the millions already infected.

Indian security forces kill 2 Kashmiris in Pulwama

Srinagar, 5 Mar 2019: Two Kashmiris were killed by Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, Army sources said Tuesday.

Indian security forces alleged that a gunfight broke out at Tral area on Monday with Kashmiri separatists. The security forces had cordoned off the area and launched an operation to flush out the separatists, they claimed.

Pakistan to focus on promotion of economic growth: PM

ISLAMABAD, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said here on Tuesday that trade and investment is one of the main focuses of his government's foreign policy and he wants to further promote it to attract foreign investment, local media reported.

Expressway linking Beijing Winter Games competition zones to open this year

SHIJIAZHUANG, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The main part of Yanchong expressway linking Yanqing district of Beijing and Chongli district of Zhangjiakou, two competition zones of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, is expected to be completed and open this year.

Yanqing and Chongli will stage all the skiing events in 2022. The 116-kilometer expressway, an important transportation project for 2022 Winter Games, will shorten the distance between the two zones and cut the transportation time from more than two hours to nearly one hour.

Electronic surveillance of Indo-Bangla border to begin from Tuesday

New Delhi, Mar 4; PTI: A "highly porous" riverine section of the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam will be put under electronic surveillance from Tuesday in a bid to check illegal immigration and smuggling of arms, ammunition, drugs and cattle, the Union Home Ministry (MHA) said Monday.

The "smart fencing" will be operationalised in the 61 km riverine section of the international border in Dhubri district of Assam where the Brahmaputra river enters into Bangladesh.

Srinagar, Mar 4; PTI/GANASHAKTI: CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami said on Monday the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir should be resumed at the earliest and called for holding Lok Sabha and state assembly polls together in the state.

"Jammu and Kashmir is without an elected government for the past nine months and in the absence of an elected government, uncertainty in the state is deepening day-by-day and dissatisfaction among large section of people is increasing," Tarigami said.
