Brazil to send trade missions to Asia, Europe

RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Brazil will send trade missions to Asia and Europe in a bid to expand its agricultural exports, Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina said on Tuesday.

Speaking to Brazil's G1 news website, Cristina said she would personally lead the delegations to open new markets and negotiate with Asian and European countries.

India: Jharkhand CM presents Rs 85,429 crore budget

Ranchi, Jan 22 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das Tuesday tabled an estimated Rs 85,429 crore budget for the year 2019-20 in the state Assembly with more than 25 per cent of the funds earmarked for development of ST/SC areas.

Out of the total budget, Rs 65,803 crore is on the head of revenue expenditure while Rs 19,626 crore on capital expenditure, the chief minister said in his budget speech.

India: Prohibitory orders imposed in Shamli for UP Board exams

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 23 (PTI) Prohibitory orders were imposed in Shamli district to maintain law and order and in view of the UP board examination, officials said Tuesday.

Additional District Magistrate K B Singh said orders were imposed Tuesday under Section 144 of the CrPC, preventing assembly of more than four people. People were also from carrying firearms and using loudspeakers with immediate effect.

The Uttar Pradesh Board examination will begin on February 7 and will be held over 16 working days.

India: School teacher arrested for sexually abusing students

Malkangiri (Odisha), Jan 22 (PTI) An assistant teacher of a school in Malkangiri district was arrested by police Tuesday on the charge of molestation and sexual abuse of minor girls, officials said.

The district administration also suspended head master of Ashram School at Gangala, Pravat Lakra while assistant teacher Ajay Kumar Das has been arrested, they said.

Israel, U.S. successfully test Arrow-3 missile defense system

JERUSALEM, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Israel and the United States on Tuesday carried out a successful test of the advanced anti-ballistic missile system "Arrow-3," said the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

The test was carried out at the "Palmachim" military air base in central Israel by the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure (MAFAT) at Israel's Defense Ministry, and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.

India: Teenager raped by two men

Balrampur (UP), Jan 22 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men in Hompur village here, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when the girl was returning from her agricultural field.

Vijay (30) and Mitrasen (28) allegedly raped the girl in the jungle, SP Amit Kumar said.

On the complaint of the girl's family, an FIR has been filed and both arrested, the SP said.

The girl has been sent for medical examination.

British PM refuses to back no deal Brexit or delay EU departure

LONDON, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday that she would not back a no-deal Brexit or delay the country's departure from the European Union (EU).

May made the remarks while addressing lawmakers in the House of Commons to outline her latest proposals for Britain's departure from EU.

It follows last week's overwhelming defeat in the British parliament for her Brexit deal.

The defeat of her deal, by more than 200 votes, was the biggest in the country's political history.

China to become high-income country by 2025: economist

FRANKFURT, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- China will become a high-income country by 2025 and the world's largest economy by 2030, Justine Yifu Lin, former senior vice president and chief economist at the World Bank, said here on Monday.

At "The Economics of China's New Era," an event hosted by the Sustainable Architecture for Finance in Europe, Lin said that "even after 40 years of extraordinary growth, China still has a huge potential for dynamic economic growth."
