India: Shiv Sena questions PM Modi's silence over Rafale deal

Mumbai, Nov 15 (PTI) Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Rafale aircraft deal, the Shiv Sena Thursday said it has led to further "suspicion" among the people about something being amiss in it.

The Sena sarcastically said people will now believe there was no Rafale scam in the Defence Ministry like there was no irrigation scam in Maharashtra.

19-yr-old man beaten to death over parking in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 16 (PTI) A 19-year-old man was beaten to death after he intervened in an argument over a parking issue, involving his cousin, in Outer Delhi's Sultan Puri area, police said Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday around 3.30 pm at a market place in the area.

The deceased, Varun, was thrashed by Mannu, his brother Ravi and some other people, who are at large, Seju Kuruvilla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.

California fire has claimed 63 as missing list grows to 631

CHICO, Calif. (AP) — At least 63 are now dead from a Northern California wildfire, and officials say they have a missing persons list with 631 names on it in an ever-evolving accounting of the missing after the nation’s deadliest wildfire in a century.

The high number of missing people probably includes some who fled the blaze and didn’t realize they had been reported missing, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said. He added that he was making the list public so people could see if they were on it and let authorities know they were safe.

India: 28-yr-old woman raped by 2 men in Greater Noida

Noida, Nov 15 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men in Greater Noida, police said.

The incident took place on November 11 when the woman was returning home in the night from a local bazaar and the accused held her on the road, they said.

"A complaint was received at the Knowledge Park police station and an FIR was registered immediately. The police had carried out raids and the accused were arrested late Wednesday night from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida," Circle Officer, Greater Noida 1, Nishank Sharma said.

India, China officials hold defence, security dialogue

Beijing, Nov 15 (PTI) Top officials of India and China held the ninth Annual Defence and Security Dialogue here after a one-year gap due to the Doklam standoff, as both countries agreed to enhance military exchanges and interactions.

The dialogue on November 13 was held between the two defence delegations headed by Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra and China's Deputy Chief of Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission.

Chinese to account for half of luxury sales by 2025

MILAN (AP) — Chinese consumers will remain the driving force for the luxury goods market, according to a new study by Bain consultancy released Thursday that shows they will fuel nearly half of global high-end sales by 2025.

Chinese shoppers will account for 46 percent of global luxury sales of an estimated 365 billion euros ($412 billion) in just six years, Bain said in the study, which was prepared for Italy’s Altagamma association of high-end producers. That’s up from one third of all sales of luxury apparel, accessories and cosmetics last year.

Saudi prosecutor seeks death penalty in Khashoggi’s killing

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia’s top prosecutor said Thursday he’s seeking the death penalty for five suspects charged with ordering and carrying out the killing of dissident Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi at the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul.

The disclosures by the prosecution appear aimed at distancing the killers and their operation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whose decision-making powers have thrust him into the center of a global outcry over the killing.

EU divorce deal in peril after two UK Cabinet ministers quit

LONDON (AP) — Two British Cabinet ministers, including Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, resigned Thursday in opposition to the divorce deal struck by Prime Minister Theresa May with the EU — a major blow to her authority and her ability to get the deal through Parliament.

As pro-Brexit Conservatives called for a no-confidence vote in their leader, a defiant May insisted Brexit meant making “the right choices, not the easy ones” and urged lawmakers to support the deal “in the national interest.”

India: Family of Kathua rape victim drops lawyer

Pathankot, Nov 15 (PTI) The family of the eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Kathua has removed lawyer Deepika Rajawat as their advocate on record, saying she seldom appeared for hearings in the case, officials informed Thursday.

The plea was moved Wednesday by the family before the court of district and sessions judge here which is hearing the case day-to-day following directions from the Supreme Court.

India: Lankesh murder accused sent to SIT custody

Kolhapur (Mah), Nov 15 (PTI) An accused in the murder case of Communist leader Govind Pansare was Thursday remanded in police custody by a court here.

Sessions judge S S Raul sent Amol Arvind Kale (34) in the custody of a special investigation team (SIT) of Maharashtra Police till November 22.

Kale was earlier arrested by Karnataka Police in connection with the September 2017 murder of journalist Gouri Lankesh.

India: J&K guv wants 5 new medical colleges functional by 2019

Jammu, Nov 15 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has called for expeditious completion of all necessary infrastructural and other facilities to ensure that the five new medical colleges in the state start functioning from the next academic session.

The five new medical colleges are coming up at Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Anantnag and Baramulla for which the Centre has sanctioned Rs 189 crore each.
