Gaza flare-up kills Israeli officer, 7 Palestinians

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says an officer was killed and another was moderately wounded during an operation in southeast Gaza Strip, involving an exchange of gunfire.

The early Monday statement followed a rare late-night burst of violence in which seven Palestinians were also killed. The flare-up came as Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers had appeared to be making progress toward ratcheting down months of border violence.

Israel’s military later said the operation had ended.

US tells Saudi prince Khashoggi killers to be held accountable

11 Nov 2018; AFP: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday the US will hold accountable all involved in the killing of a dissident Saudi journalist in a wide-ranging telephone call that also took in the conflict in Yemen.

Jamal Khashoggi, a US resident, was murdered in Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul on October 2 and the crown prince has been accused of orchestrating the killing, which has strained the decades-old alliance between Washington and Riyadh.

India: 5 commandos injured in encounters with Naxal terrorists

Raipur, Nov 12 (PTI) Five CoBRA personnel were injured in two encounters with the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Monday, the first phase of the state elections, police said.

The skirmish took place at separate spots at a forest in Pamed, around 500 km from Raipur. The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) -- an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) -- was patrolling the area in view of the voting going on in the region, a senior police officer said.

Two Naxal terrorists gunned down in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Nov 12 (PTI) Two Naxals were gunned down Monday evening in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Two other rebels were caught from the encounter site, an official said.

The gunfight took place in forests near a village under Pushpal police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was returning after discharging election-related duty, Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena told PTI.

Army soldier killed by Pakistani sniper in J-K's Poonch

Jammu, Nov 12 (PTI) An Army soldier was killed and another injured Monday by a Pakistani sniper along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesperson said.

Two Army personnel fell to sniping in Sunderbani and Noushera sectors of Rajouri district on Saturday and Sunday, while an Army porter lost his life in a similar attack in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district a day earlier.

U.S. fighter jet crashes into sea off Okinawa, crew members eject to safety

TOKYO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. fighter jet crashed off Japan's southern prefecture of Okinawa, the Japan Coast Guard and Defense Ministry said Monday.

According to the officials, the FA-18 aircraft crashed in waters around 290 km from Okinawa, owing to mechanical issues.

The two pilots safety ejected, officials said, and were rescued by a U.S. military helicopter.

The jet belongs to the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier and the accident occurred while the jet was carrying out routine operations in the Philippine Sea, the U.S. 7th Fleet said.
