Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister announces Cow Minister

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced Cow Minister, a new portfolio in his ministry, to serve the cow better.

According to The Indian Minister, “Chouhan made the announcement in Khajuraho where a function to give awards to gaushalas was organised. The announcement comes days before the model code of conduct kicks-in the poll-bound state”.

Over 170 aftershocks rock Indonesia’s Sulawesi

TASS, September 30. More than 170 aftershocks were recorded on Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island after a 7.4 magnitude quake on Friday, a spokesman for Indonesia's disaster management agency, Sutopo Nugroho, said.

"Different aftershocks were recorded, and their magnitude did not exceed 5," Nugroho said. Some areas are still hard to reach, including Dungala, home to at least 300,000 people, which is the epicenter of the aftershocks.

Power and communications have been cut off for a second day in a row, he noted.

Exploring alternative oil supplies to ensure our 'friend' India's economy not adversely affected: US

New York, Sep 29; PTI:  With a tougher round of US sanctions on Iran coming into effect from November 4, a top Trump administration official said Washington recognises India's need for significant oil imports and is having conversations to ensure there are alternative supplies of the fuel "so that our friend India's economy is not adversely affected".

Earlier this year, the US had withdrawn from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal and reimposed a series of tough sanctions on Iran.

Trump says he and Kim Jong Un 'in love'

Washington, Sep 30 (AFP) US President Donald Trump said he and North Korea's Kim Jong Un have fallen "in love" -- their bromance fuelled by "beautiful letters" he received from the leader of the nuclear-armed state.

Trump on Saturday elevated his recent praise of Kim to new heights, at a West Virginia rally in support of local candidates for his Republican Party.

"And then we fell in love -- OK? No really. He wrote me beautiful letters and they're great letters. We fell in love," Trump told the crowd.

Petrol, diesel prices at record highs; check latest fuel prices in major cities

New Delhi; 30 Sep 2018; PTI: Petrol, diesel prices hit another record high on Sunday as the upward trend in fuel prices continued. Petrol prices were increased by 9-10 paise per litre on Sunday while diesel prices were hiked by 16-17 paise across the four metro cities.

In Delhi, petrol was retailing at Rs 83.49 per litre while diesel was sold at Rs 74.79 after today's hike. In the country's business capital Mumbai, petrol price moved closer to the Rs 91 per litre mark to Rs 90.84 while diesel was priced at Rs 79.40.

Death toll from Indonesia quakes, tsunami jumps to 832

JAKARTA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from multiple strong earthquakes and an ensuing tsunami which devastated Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province has jumped to 832, a spokesman of the national disaster management agency said on Sunday.

Some 540 people were seriously injured and 16,732 people were forced to flee their homes, spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

The death toll was expected to rise as assessment of the risks and evacuation were underway, according to the spokesman.

US naval blockade possible for disrupting Russian oil, gas supplies - Interior Secretary

NEW YORK, September 30. /TASS/. US Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said a naval blockade of Russia was an option for limiting Russia’s role on the global energy market, Washington Examiner quoted him as saying.

"The United States has that ability, with our Navy, to make sure the sea lanes are open, and, if necessary, to blockade ... to make sure that their energy does not go to market," Zinke was quoted as saying during an industry event in Pittsburgh hosted by the Consumer Energy Alliance.

Define the term 'urban naxal', asks Romila Thapar

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) Eminent historian Romila Thapar, who petitioned the Supreme Court against the house arrest of five Left-leaning activists, has asked government to define the phrase 'urban naxal', saying either they do not understand the meaning of the term or the activists like her do not.

Talking on the house arrests of five activists Varavara Rao, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves, Sudha Bharadwaj and Gautam Navlakha, she said these are the people who are fighting against social injustice.

Married woman raped at gunpoint in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 29 : A 26-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour at gunpoint when she was alone in her house in a village in Shamli district, police said Saturday.

Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said the incident occurred at Jandheri village under Kairana Police Station Friday.

According to complaint lodged by the victim's husband, their neighbour, Gaurav Kumar, 27, entered the house in his absence and raped her at gunpoint, the CO said.

Court grants bail to co-accused in Asaram sexual assault case

Jodhpur, Sept 29 (PTI) The Rajasthan High Court on Saturday suspended the sentence of a co-accused in Asaram sexual assault case and granted her bail, her lawyer said here.

Justice Vijay Bishnoi granted the relief to Sanchita Gupta alias Shilpi, who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by a trial court, on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and two surety bonds each of Rs 1 lakh.

"She had challenged her sentence in the high court. The arguments on the appeal had completed on Wednesday and the court had reserved the order, said her counsel Mahesh Bora.
