Iran determined to ditch US dollar in trade: CBI governor

Tehran, IRNA – De-dollarization is a strategic policy pursued by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), says CBI Governor Mohammadreza Farzin.

He made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran on Monday with Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion Qais bin Mohammad Al Yousef where the two sides explored ways for further enhancement of bilateral trade.

Iran committed to producing 10 GW of nuclear electricity

Tehran, IRNA – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) says that the Islamic Republic is committed to expanding its nuclear electricity sector to reach a generation capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW).

Mohammad Eslami said on Monday that Iran will make efforts to attract foreign investment into its nuclear electricity sector, adding that a budget law for the calendar year to March 2024 projects construction of nuclear power plants with reliance on domestic and foreign investments.

Iran: Opportunity to revive JCPOA not always there; deputy FM

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani has said the United States dealt a devastating blow to the international rule of law by withdrawing from Iran nuclear deal some five years ago, adding that the opportunity to revive the deal is not always there.

Bagheri, Iran's top nuclear negotiator, made the remarks on Tuesday on the anniversary of the United States’ withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2018.

US will not normalize relations with Assad's Syria: White House

08 May 2023; AA: The US will not move to restore diplomatic relations with Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime, the White House said Monday after the Arab League’s weekend move to reinstate Damascus. 

A growing number of regional nations have moved to resume ties with Syria in recent months, including close US allies, and White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said Washington is in contact with those who are choosing to do so to discuss the processes.

Pakistan, China and Afghanistan agree to combat terrorism, enhance economic cooperation

Islamabad, May 7 (PTI) Pakistan, China and Afghanistan have agreed to combat terrorism and enhance cooperation in different economic fields, the foreign office here said on Sunday.

The foreign ministers of the three countries participated in the 5th China-Pakistan-Afghanistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue held in Islamabad on Saturday, it said in a statement.

India: Go First airline requests early decision on its voluntary insolvency

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Crisis-hit airline Go First on Monday requested the National Company Law Tribunal to take an early decision on its voluntary insolvency resolution plea, saying lessors have started deregistering the carrier's aircraft.

On May 4, after a hearing, the tribunal had reserved its order on the budget carrier's petition.

Istanbul Airport ranked busiest in Europe: Report

08 May 2023; AA: Türkiye's Istanbul Airport has been ranked the busiest in Europe with an average of 1,446 daily flights, the European Air Navigation Safety Organization (EUROCONTROL) said in its latest Air Traffic Operations Report covering the April 26-May 2 period.

It was followed by Amsterdam with 1,314 daily flights, London Heathrow with 1,272 flights, Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 1,245 flights and Frankfurt with 1,194 flights.

Iran's exports at four-decade record: Pres Raisi

Tehran, IRNA – President Ebrahim Raisi says that Iran has exported over $50 billion worth of goods in the Iranian calendar year 1401 (March 20, 2022, to March 20, 2023), which was a record in the past four decades.

President Raisi made the remarks at the opening ceremony of IRAN EXPO 2023 in Tehran on Sunday.

In his remarks, the president mentioned the activation of Iranian trade offices in other countries to introduce the Islamic Republic's economic and scientific potentials.

Iran expects trade deals worth up to $2bn from IRAN EXPO 2023

Tehran, IRNA- Iran expects trade deals and business contracts worth up to $2 billion will be inked during IRAN EXPO 2023, a major international trade event being held in Tehran, an Iranian official says.

Alireza Peyman Pak, deputy minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, said on Sunday that an estimated 1,250 businessmen and trade officials from more than 65 countries in Europe, Latin America, Eurasia, Southeast Asia, and Africa, as well as Iran’s neighbors, are currently in Tehran to attend the event.

Arab League readmits Syria as relations with Assad normalise

07 May 2023; MEMO: Arab League foreign ministers adopted a decision to readmit Syria after more than a decade of suspension on Sunday, a spokesperson for the League said, consolidating a regional push to normalise ties with President Bashar al-Assad, reports Reuters.

The decision was taken at a closed meeting of Arab foreign ministers at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo, said Gamal Roshdy, spokesman for the Arab League's secretary general.
