Russia welcomes Algeria's desire to join BRICS

09 Nov 2022; MEMO: Russia has welcomed Algeria's intention to joining the BRICS group, special envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, said yesterday.

Algerian officials on Monday filed a formal application to join the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) – an association that aims to promote peace, security, development and cooperation between the countries in the alliance.

Oman posts $2.9bn budget surplus

07 Nov 2022; MEMO: Oman recorded a budget surplus of $2.92bn (OR1.12), the country's Finance Ministry says, local media reports.

According to the report, the high price of oil and an increase in gas revenue contributed to public revenue, according to the monthly report by the Finance Ministry.

There was a 43.4 per cent increase in revenue, as OR10.64bn ($27.6bn) was measured against OR7.4bn ($19.2bn).

Algeria officially applies to join BRICS bloc

08 Nov 2022; MEMO: Algeria has officially applied to join the BRICS economic group, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The bloc of emerging economies includes Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa.
Foreign Ministry official, Leyla Zarruki, said the North African country has requested membership of the economic bloc, the State radio reported.

India apprises China of new norms for Indian medical students studying in Chinese colleges to qualify for practice back home

Beijing, Nov 7 (PTI) India has apprised China of the recent stringent regulations issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for Indian students studying in Chinese medical colleges to obtain permission to practice back home and asked authorities here to ensure that the students are qualified to comply with the new rules.

Oman, Kuwait withdraw from Bahrain air show over Israel participation

07 Nov 2022; MEMO: Oman's SalamAir withdrew from participating in the Bahrain International Air show, while the Kuwaiti Finance House removed its logo from the list of sponsors due to the participation of Israeli companies in the show.

This is the first time Israeli companies have participated in the international exhibition that takes place every two years.

China, Saudi Arabia assure Pakistan of $13 billion in funding amid ongoing crises

06 Nov 2022; MEMO: China and Saudi Arabia have guaranteed $13 billion in funding to Pakistan as it continues to struggle with economic and environmental crises.

According to the newspaper Dawn, Pakistani Finance Minister Ishaq Dar told reporters that China said it will provide $4 billion worth of sovereign loans to the country, as well as refinancing a further $3.3 billion in commercial bank borrowings and increasing currency swaps by up to $1.45 billion.

India: IndiGo airline's Q2 loss widens to Rs 1,583.34 cr on higher expenses

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of the country's largest airline IndiGo, on Friday reported a widening of loss to Rs 1,583.34 crore for the September quarter due to higher fuel costs and foreign exchange loss.

The airline, also the world's seventh largest in terms of daily departures, reported a loss of Rs 381.8 crore, excluding the foreign exchange loss of Rs 1,201.5 crore, in the latest quarter under review.
