Cambodia’s Ruling Party Forms Coalition With 27 Other Parties

PHNOM PENH, Oct 25 (NNN-AKP) – The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), signed a Cooperation and Coalition Agreement with 27 other political parties today.

CPP President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, inked the historic deal with representatives of those parties at a ceremony held at the CPP’s headquarters in Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the event, Hun Sen said, the alliance aimed to maintain the country’s hard-earned peace and political stability, the most important prerequisite for socio-economic development.

Cambodian PM to attend ASEAN-GCC summit in Saudi Arabia

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit to be held on Friday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The summit is a vital platform for the ASEAN and GCC leaders to explore ways to enhance mutually beneficial spheres of cooperation, including trade and investment, smart cities, energy, counter-terrorism and tourism," the statement said.

Cambodia reports 3rd bird flu death this year

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- A two-year-old girl from southeastern Cambodia's Prey Veng province has died of H5N1 human avian influenza, the third death from the virus recorded in the country so far this year, the Ministry of Health said Monday.

The toddler tested positive for H5N1 bird flu on Monday, the ministry said in a news release, without specifying her time of death.

The ministry said Tamiflu (oseltamivir), an antiviral drug to prevent the bird flu from spreading, was distributed to people who had direct contact with the girl.

Cambodian, Thai PMs discuss ways to further boost bilateral ties, cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his visiting Thai counterpart Srettha Thavisin held a meeting here on Thursday, discussing ways to further promote bilateral ties and cooperation.

According to a news release after the meeting, the two prime ministers held talks in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, where they had in-depth exchange of views on bilateral cooperation.

Cambodia imports oil, gas products worth 2.28 bln USD in Jan.-Aug.

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's imports of oil and gas products totaled 2.28 billion U.S. dollars during the January-August period this year, down 9.5 percent from last year, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise on Monday.

As the country's oil and gas heavily rely on imports, the Ministry of Mines and Energy predicts that the demand for oil and gas products is expected to rise to 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.

Cambodian Parliament approves longtime leader’s son as prime minister as part of generational change

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — The son of longtime autocratic Cambodian leader Hun Sen was approved by Parliament on Tuesday as the country’s new prime minister, part of a generational change in top positions in the Southeast Asian nation.

Hun Manet, 45, won his first seat in the National Assembly in July elections and takes over from his father, who had been Asia’s longest serving leader with nearly four decades in power, after serving as Cambodia’s army chief.

He was approved by lawmakers unanimously and is to be officially sworn in later Tuesday.

Over 2,000 pieces of war-era unexploded ordnance found in NE Cambodia school

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) experts have recovered more than 2,000 pieces of war-era unexploded ordnance (UXO) buried on a school campus in northeastern Kratie province, a mine clearance chief said on Monday.

"Within a three-day period of operations on Aug. 11-13 at the Queen Kosamak High School in Kratie province, CMAC's Remnants of War team has cleared 2,116 pieces of unexploded ordinances as the remnants of war," CMAC's director-general Heng Ratana told Xinhua.

China’s foreign minister visits Cambodia days after incumbent premier hands off the job to his son

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — China’s foreign minister visited Cambodia over the weekend to reaffirm his country’s commitment to the southeast Asian country after its incumbent prime minister handed off the job to his son following a one-sided election last month, officials said.

Wang Yi is the first foreign leader to visit Cambodia, days after Hun Sen’s announcement that his 45-year-old son and the country’s army chief, Hun Manet, is replacing him.

A video of the meeting was posted on Hun Sen’s Telegram channel on Sunday.
