China refutes "Five Eyes" statement over top legislature's HK decision

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Thursday refuted a statement by the "Five Eyes" intelligence alliance over China's decision to disqualify certain Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Legislative Council (LegCo) members.

In a joint statement, the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK called on the Chinese government to reconsider actions against Hong Kong's legislature and reinstate the disqualified LegCo members.

Fire in Hong Kong apartment building kills 7, injures 11

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong authorities said a fire at an apartment building in a crowded residential district has killed at least seven people and injured another 11.

The blaze occurred Sunday night in Yau Ma Tei, a usually bustling area in Kowloon packed with old apartment blocks, shops and businesses.

The fire broke out in what appeared to be a restaurant that was located in an apartment in a residential building, fire officials said at a news conference early Monday. Officials said the cause of the fire was still unknown.

China suspends two inbound flights over COVID-19 cases

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation regulator announced on Friday the suspension for one week of the Bangladeshi US-Bangla Airlines Dhaka-Guangzhou flight and the Himalaya Airlines Kathmandu-Chongqing flight after several passengers tested positive for COVID-19 on recent flights.

Six passengers tested positive on Bangladeshi US-Bangla Airlines flight BS325 on Nov. 1, while six tested positive on flight H9787 of Himalaya Airlines, a Nepal-China joint venture, on Nov. 4, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
