BEJING, June 29 (APP): China’s willingness and confidence to continue China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) cooperation with Pakistan has never changed, and the two countries’ collaboration in this regard has never been stalled nor slowed.

Just last week, China, Pakistan and a Chinese company signed a $2.4 billion deal for the construction of a 1,124-megawatt hydropower project at Kohala, marking the country’s largest foreign investment in the power sector.

Global COVID-19 deaths top 500,000, cases continue to mount in LatAm, African countries

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the world, with the death toll worldwide having topped 500,000, and cases surging in Latin American and African nations.

Global COVID-19 deaths surpassed 500,000 on Sunday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Latest data from the CSSE showed that the current death toll stands at 501,281, while the number of confirmed cases has surpassed 10,117,000.

China to impose visa restrictions on U.S. individuals acting viciously on HK-related issues

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- China has decided to impose visa restrictions on U.S. individuals who have acted viciously on issues related to Hong Kong, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Monday.

Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at a press briefing in response to the U.S. imposition of visa restrictions on Chinese officials.

The U.S. attempt to obstruct China's national security legislation for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by adopting the so-called sanctions will be to no avail, Zhao added.

Over Eight Million In Beijing Receive COVID-19 Tests

BEIJING, June 29 (NNN-XINHUA) – Nearly 8.3 million residents of Beijing have received nucleic acid tests, as of Sunday noon, since the resurgence of domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, local authorities said, on Sunday.

Test results from about 7.69 million people have come back so far, said Zhang Qiang, deputy head of the Organisation Department of Beijing Municipal Party Committee.

Zhang said, the city’s daily testing capacity has been expanded to 458,000 samples, from 40,000 on June 11.

New High-Speed Railway Connects East, Central China

HEFEI, June 29 (NNN-XINHUA) – A new high-speed railway route connecting east and central China started operation on Sunday.

With a designed speed of 350 kph, the route connects the city of Shangqiu in central China’s Henan Province, and Hefei and Hangzhou, the capital cities of east China’s Anhui and Zhejiang provinces.

The northern section of the railway, from Shangqiu to Hefei, went into operation in Dec, 2019, according to the China Railway Shanghai Group Co., Ltd.

Dozens arrested as Hong Kongers protest planned national security laws

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong police arrested at least 53 people on Sunday after scuffles erupted during a relatively peaceful protest against planned national security legislation to be implemented by the mainland Chinese government.

Armed riot police were present as a crowd of several hundred moved from Jordan to Mong Kok in the Kowloon district, staging what was intended as a “silent protest” against the planned law.

Chinese people make over 78 mln trips during Dragon Boat Festival holiday

BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- China saw around 78.79 million passenger trips during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday that ends Saturday, according to an estimation of the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

Passenger trips on trains reached 17.76 million during the holiday, while trips via waterway totaled 1.61 million, data from the estimation showed.

An estimated 2.68 million trips were operated by civil airlines, with the average load factor standing at 69 percent, while 56.73 million road trips were made, according to the MOT.

Satellite images show buildup on disputed India-China border

BEIJING (AP) — Construction activity appeared underway on both the Indian and Chinese sides of a contested border high in the Karakoram mountains a week after a deadly clash in the area left 20 Indian soldiers dead, satellite images showed.

The images released this week by Maxar, a Colorado-based satellite imagery company, show new construction activity along the Galwan River Valley, even as Chinese and Indian diplomats said military commanders had agreed to disengage from a standoff there.
