China virus cases stabilize as Italy sees drop in deaths

BEIJING (AP) — China has extended COVID-19 tests to newly reopened salons amid a drop in cases, while South Korea continues to face new infections after it eased social distancing rules to lift the economy.

In the U.S., Vice President Mike Pence called off off a planned campaign bus tour in Florida following a surge in confirmed cases there. Hard-hit Italy, meanwhile, registered the lowest day-to-day tally of COVID-19 deaths Saturday in almost three months.

China’s COVID-19 vaccine enters phase 3 trial

BEIJING, Jun 25 (APP): China reached an important new level of vaccine development with the start of the phase three clinical trial of an inactivated vaccine candidate against COVID-19 in the United Arab Emirates.

It is the first vaccine of its kind to reach a late-stage, mass-scale human trial, according to China National Biotec Group, China Daily reported on Thursday.

Chinese in India being harassed amid rising anti-China sentiment following border clash

BEIJING, June 24 (APP): Some Chinese living in India say its unsafe for them to go out in public and have closed their shops amid a boycott that has included anti-China graffiti and the burning of Chinese flags.

The wave of anti-China sentiment in India erupted after a border clash in Galwan Valley between China and India, Global Times reported on Wednesday.

Since then some Indians have launched campaigns calling for a boycott of Chinese products and businesses. Anti-China protests are being held in many cities.

US virus cases surge to highest level in 2 months

BEIJING (AP) — New coronavirus cases in the U.S. have surged to their highest level in two months and are now back to where they were at the peak of the outbreak.

The U.S. on Tuesday reported 34,700 new cases of the virus, according to a tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University that was published Wednesday. There have been only two previous days that the U.S. has reported more cases: April 9 and April 24, when a record 36,400 cases were logged.

Beijing terms reports of 40 Chinese troops’ casualties in border clash as ‘fake news’

BEIJING, June 23 (APP): China on Tuesday rejected the media reports of 40 Chinese troops casualties in the Galwan valley border clash with India and termed them as ‘fake news’.

“As for what you saw in the media, for example, some people alleged that casualties on the Chinese amounted to 40. I can tell you for sure this is fake news,” Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said during his regular briefing held here.

EU business body fears China-EU investment deal will not be finished this year

BEIJING (Reuters) - The president of European Union Chamber of Commerce in China said on Tuesday that he doubts the China-EU investment agreement will be finished this year.

Joerg Wuttke told reporters during a briefing that he was disappointed the latest EU-China meetings did not lead to a joint communique, adding that he was concerned China is drifting towards isolation.
