Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 19 (PTI) Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has sought a report from the state government for moving the Supreme Court against the Citizenship Amendment Act without informing him.

The office of Raj Bhavan has sought the report from the Chief Secretary of the state.

"The Governors office has sought a report from the Chief Secretary for not informing him about the states move to approach the apex court against the CAA," a top source from Raj Bhavan told PTI on Sunday.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 18 (PTI) CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday demanded that the Union government come clear on the de-radicalisation camps operating in India and alleged that they were "illegal and unconstitutional".

The central government should make it clear where these camps are operating, Tarigami, who is here in connection with the three-day CPI(M) central committee meet, told reporters.

Kozhikode, Jan 14 (PTI) A video of BJP workers purportedly raising provocative slogans alluding to the 2002 Gujarat riots while taking out a rally in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act, has gone viral, prompting police to register a case.

The rally was taken out at nearby Kuttiyadi on Monday, police said.

In the video some BJP workers, carrying party flags are seen allegedly raising provocative slogans.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (PTI): Kerala is set to get a digital university soon as the state government decides to upgrade the present Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) here to varsity status.

A Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Wednesday decided to recommend to the Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to issue an ordinance in this regard.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 14 (PTI) A day after it moved the Supreme Court against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Kerala government on Tuesday said it would continue its fight against the legislation as it "destroys" the secularism and democracy in the country.

The CPI(M)-led government had on Monday moved the apex court challenging the CAA and sought to declare it as 'ultra vires' of the Constitution.

Kozhikode, Jan 10 (PTI): Hundreds of fishermen staged a novel protest from nearby Chaliyam against the Citizenship Amendment Act, sailing their boats with the national flag tied at the bows of the vessels and shouting slogans against the CAA.

Named 'water march,' the boat rally was held from Chaliyam Jankar Jetty to Feroke puthiyapaalam (New Bridge) and back on Friday evening.

The video of the unique protest has now gone viral on the social media.

Kochi, Jan 10 (PTI) Kerala has attracted Rs 1 lakh crore investment proposals going by entrepreneur feedback at the Global Investors Meet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday at the conclusion of the event here held with the aim of enhancing ease of doing business in the state.

Overall, the two-day ASCEND 2020 event received 164 investment proposals, Vijayan said.

The Kerala Infrastructure Management Ltd has promised to invest Rs 8,110 crores, while the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Rs 66,900 crore, he said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 8 (PTI) The day-long strike called by central trade unions was near total in Left-ruled Kerala on Wednesday, with vehicles, including state-owned KSRTC and private buses keeping off the roads.

In the state capital, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) did not operate city and long distance services.

Very few private vehicles and autorickshaws were seen plying on roads.

As Sabarimala pilgrims have been exempted from the strike, KSRTC buses are taking Ayyappa devotees to Pamba.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 3 (PTI) Days after the Kerala Assembly passed a resolution on repealing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday wrote to his counterparts in 11 states on the need to save secularism and democracy.

In a letter to the chief ministers, including Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, Vijayan said, "Apprehensions have arisen among large sections of our society consequent to the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 2 (PTI): Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Thursday said the resolution passed by the state assembly demanding scrapping of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has absolutely no constitutional or legal validity.

"This resolution has absolutely no constitutional or legal validity. Citizenship comes exclusively in the domain of the Central list. The state government has no role. So, why these people engaged in something which is a non-issue for Kerala?" he asked.
