India: Looking for a Photo studio becomes hard for Jajmauites

Kanpur: What was hard to find out in length and breadth of the Jajmau area was the shop of the photo studio. The one shop that existed on way to the Lal Bangla was also closed.

Whether it was Lal Bangla or KDA Colony, or Defence Colony there was none. The KDA Colony shop was also found to be closed for a long time. It presented a feeling that it had been closed since a long time.

Photostat shops are in abundance but photo studio is not available in the bustling markets of Jajmau. 

India: Raped and harassed teen found hanging at home in UP

Kanpur, Sep 19 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her home in Baraur area of Kanpur Dehat district after she was raped and harassed by a youth living in her neighbourhood, police said on Sunday.

The 25-year-old accused has been arrested, they said.

The victim, a Class 10 student, has left behind a suicide note written in English in which she stated that she is committing suicide on her own will and no one will be responsible for her act, the SP added.

India: BJP govt weakening all pillars of democracy: Cong

Lucknow, Sep 19 (PTI) The Congress party on Sunday accused the BJP government of trying to weaken all pillars of democracy and said the Godse ideology can be defeated only by that of Mahatma Gandhi'.

"The Congress has worked to strengthen all pillars of democracy but the Narendra Modi government is doing the opposite. Efforts to weaken democracy is the BJP's ideology which can be defeated with the ideology of non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi," media convenor of UP Congress Lalan Kumar said, addressing a media event here.

The reason perhaps lies in the "aab-o-hawa" (water and air), among other factors, offered by the region that the Islamic educationist-reformer found after rigorous research and got convinced about establishing a school that would go on to become the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

India: Panic grips due to deaths in Kursauli village of Kanpur

Kanpur: Locked houses, death cases and stingy silence surround Kursauli village under Kalyanpur Block of Kanpur Nagar district.

With panic spreading due to the death of at least 12 people in the last month here due to a mysterious fever, many residents left their respective houses.

Additional chief medical officer of Kanpur Nagar district Dr Subodh Prakash said surveys were being conducted in the village to look for mosquito larvae in and out of the houses, news reports said.

India: Nearly 300 patients of dengue, malaria, fever admitted at Hallet

Kanpur: About 300 people have been admitted to the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital here owing to the rising outbreaks of viral fever, dengue, and malaria in the state.

This tally includes numerous children as well. Several patients have been diagnosed with dengue and malaria.

The hospital authorities stated that despite the high number of cases, no deaths due to the outbreak was reported yet.

Lucknow, Sep 18 (PTI) The way to Delhi goes via Uttar Pradesh, said Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav stressing that the upcoming state Assembly elections are crucial to restore democracy, secularism and brotherhood.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said the challenge before the media is to maintain objectivity and transparency as strong journalism leads to strong democracy.

India: SP MLA roughs traffic cops for clicking workers' photos

Kanpur: Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki on Friday was reported to have insulted and threatened two traffic police officials during a rally of party leader Abu Azmi here.

During the arguments with the traffic policemen, Solanki demanded action against the officers, saying they clicked pictures of the SP workers to penalise them for traffic violations.

The incident was clicked by the camera and displayed the SP MLA continuously threatening them.

Samajwadi Party workers had gathered here to give a grand welcome to Abu Azmi to the city.

India: Saturday closure irks admission seekers at DAV College

Kanpur: On the third Saturday of the month the banks remain opened but colleges did not open. Why so? Many who reached at the city's older and prominent college gate were dazed to find both of the iron doors of the degree college closed.

Those who stepped up to enquire of the reason were told it would be reasonable to come on Monday.

Gatekeeper looking too older and lanky did not provide an exact cause of the closure.

Girls who were seeking admission turned up at the college were surprised and over-heard reacting to one another move to come on Monday.
