India: Woman sexually harassed in UP, her family members thrashed

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 7 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman allegedly faced sexual harassment from two youths and her family members were later thrashed in Kutubpur village here, police said on Friday.

The incident happened on Thursday in the district, they said.

Police said the two accused men entered the woman's house and harassed her when she was alone. Later, three family members of the victim, including two women, were beaten up when they tried to question the accused who live in the same neighbourhood.

India: Jajmau requires heavy rains amid humidity

Kanpur: Jajmau still lacks a dose of heavy rains. The clouds gather but it is not bringing rains to ward off the humid conditions prevailing all around. The real feel of the hourly temperature at 6 pm stays at 37° though the lowest temperature has been recorded at 32° at the time.

The residents living in the area are not able to get relief from humid weather which stays at 68%. It is proof of extremely humid condition.

Undoubtedly the humid conditions have been occurring since the last several days in the absence of heavy downpours in this tannery town. 

India: Army chief meets Uttar Pradesh CM in Lucknow

Lucknow, Aug 7 (PTI) Army Chief Gen MM Naravane met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence here on Friday.

"It was a courtesy meeting between the two. The chief minister presented a memento to the Army chief during the meeting," a state government official said.

Naravane is in the state capital to visit the Army's Central Command Headquarters.

India: Trust for building mosque in Ayodhya setting up office

Lucknow, Aug 6 (PTI) The Trust constituted by the Uttar Pradesh State Sunni Central Waqf Board to construct a mosque on five acres of land in Ayodhya is in the process of setting up an office in the state capital, an official said on Thursday.

He said the office of the Trust -- Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) -- will be functional in 10 to 12 days.

India: Couple burnt alive in UP in suspected honour killing

Banda (UP), Aug 6 (PTI) A 19-year-old woman and her lover were allegedly burnt to death by her family members in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district in a suspected case of honour killing, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Karcha village in Mataundh area when the family members allegedly caught the couple in a compromising position, they said.

India: Invitation, walking and talking over pairing later

KANPUR: One family invites another family at the festival. All of them converge, talk and have snacks. The elder lady of the host family asks the guests to have an evening walk on the park within the campus of the housing complex. 

The guests being energetic and spirited do not mind covering a little longer length of distance. The good thing was that the senior host showed no sign of tire during the course of the walk. She even said: "I do not want our walk to tire you too much."

Indian PM Modi performs ground breaking ceremony on Mosque land in Ayodhya

Ayodhya, Aug 5 (PTI) The wait of centuries has ended, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after performing the groundbreaking ceremony here for a temple at the spot where many devout Hindus believe Lord Ram was born.

Across the country, people remained glued to their television sets as Modi performed rituals at the Ram Janmabhoomi, the site of a bitter Hindu-Muslim conflict that lasted decades before being settled by the Supreme Court last year.

India: KMC distributes masks and gloves to safai staff

Kanpur: The Municipal Corporation has taken a decision to distribute as many as 16500 masks to its safai employees in view of the high incidence of the deadly corona cases.

Detailing the announcements Dr Amit Singh Nagar Swasthya Adhikari said that each safai Karamchari of the KMC would get three face masks and two pairs of gloves. 

He added that these necessary items have been dispatched to all the six zones of the Nagar Nigam. 

City dwellers have felt that sanitation would be improved after the distribution of the masks and gloves to the safai staff.
