India: Traders observe last rites of city's damaged roads

Kanpur: Traders looked deeply upset with the city's poor road condition. They were not happy with the irresponsible attitude of the Nagar Nigam and the state public works department offiçials. Staging a Dharna at the dilapidated road iñ Fazalganj area on Monday they raised slogans like stop such atrociousness flaying administrative machinery.

They were covering dilapidated and potholed roads with the white shroud. Besides they also offered flowers after placing fragrant sticks. They nearly mourned road death. This was in a different way the last rites performed by them.

India: Gang-rape victim commits suicide in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 6 (PTI) A gang-rape victim has committed suicide at Behdi village here by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house after being allegedly harassed by her assaulters to withdraw the case against them, police said.

The 24-year-old woman has also written the names of the accused on her hand before committing the suicide on Saturday evening under Chapar police station area in the district.

The woman was raped by three men about an year ago and the accused were on bail since then, police said.

India: orphanage sealed after inmate alleges gang-rape in UP

Agra, Oct 6 (PTI) The administration here on Sunday sealed an orphanage and booked its management citing irregularities, days after an inmate alleged that she was raped by three men inside the premises, officials said.

Chief Development Officer (CDO) J Reebha said the sealing was initiated around 7 pm and a case was registered against the management of the orphanage.

India: UP student commits suicide after failing to get job

Banda (UP), Oct 7 (PTI) A 25-year-old college student allegedly committed suicide here after he failed to get a job, police said on Monday.

The incident took place in Jaraili Kothi locality under City Kotwali police station limits on Sunday, they said.

Nagendra Singh, pursuing Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree at a college in Baberu area, was found hanging from the ceiling of his rented room, Station House Officer Baljit Singh said.

India: Teenager raped by two men in UP, one arrested

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 6 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was raped by two youths in a sugarcane field at Kawal village in the district, police said.

The incident happened on Saturday when the victim has gone to throw rubbish nearby by his house under Jansath police station limits, Station House Officer Yogesh Sharma said.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim's father, Bijender and Rabbal raped his daughter and threatened her not tell anybody about the incident.

India: Kanpur metro project to start work from Monday

Kanpur: Much awaited work on the metro is now starting from October 7 (Monday). The drilling machines have already been placed near the national institute of sugar technology in Kalyanpur here.

As many as three drilling machines were positioned at the spot by the Company entrusted to initiate the metro track work. The soil testing has already been completed. The drilling on the ground will start to raise the pillar. 

India: RSS Official, 3 others booked for molesting Dalit girl in UP

A 16-year-old Dalit girl was sexually assaulted in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday by a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office bearer and three of his family members.

Acoording to reports; RSS Prant Sah Boudhik Pramukh Satish Yadav, his brothers Jaidev Yadav and Sahdev Yadav, and his son Ganesh Yadav molested the dalit girl.

India: Judicial custody of rape accused BJP leader Chinmayanand extended till Oct 16

Shahjahanpur, Oct 3 (PTI) A local court here on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand till October 16.

A law student has levelled rape charges against the BJP leader.

His counsel Om Singh said the BJP leader was produced in the court through videoconferencing from the jail because of security reasons and CJM Omvir Singh extended his judicial custody by 14 days.

India: Body of newborn girl found in garbage dump in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 3 (PTI) The body of a newborn girl was found abandoned in a garbage dump in Makki locality here, police said on Thursday.

After some passersby spotted it, they informed the police about it. The body was sent for postmortem, they said, adding a search was on to trace her parents.

Two incidents of girls being abandoned were reported recently in the neighbouring Shamli district. On October 2, a newborn girl was found abandoned in some fields in Banat town and she was later taken to a hospital.
