UP's economy worsening: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Dec 26 (PTI) Claiming that Uttar Pradesh's economy is worsening instead of improving, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday alleged that this has made Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath silent on his vision to make the state a USD 1 trillion economy.

Making the assertion in a statement, Yadav, however, did not elaborate on what basis he had claimed that the UP economy has gone into a tailspin.

In his statement, Yadav also claimed that owing to the wrong policies of the BJP, the country's economy has crumbled.

India: Cong seeks to dub Yogi Adityuanath as 'Bulldozernath'

Lucknow, Dec 26 (PTI) The Congress on Sunday sought to dub Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath as "Bulldozernath" or the lord of bulldozers, allegedly out to trample the dreams of youths.

The Congress made the allegation a day after the Lucknow police denied the party to hold a five-km race in the city as part of Congress president Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's 'Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon' poll campaign.

It accused the chief minister of crushing the dreams of girls who wanted to run a marathon organised by the party in Lucknow.

India: 17-year-old girl raped in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Dec 26 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a youth from her village here, police said on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Akshit. He is on the run, they said.

The girl was allegedly abducted by the youth four days ago from her village under Kotwali police station area. She was found unconscious by her family members at a nearby place, the police said.

Later, the girl told her parents that she was raped by Akshit, they said.

India: 30-year-old woman found dead in UP, dowry dispute suspected

Muzaffarnagar, Dec 26 (PTI) The body of a 30-year-old woman was found hanging at her in-laws' house in Shamli district, with her father alleging she was murdered by her husband over a dowry dispute, police said on Sunday.

Bhumika used to live with her in-laws in the Maniharan locality of the district, and she was found dead on Saturday, they said.

Her father, Anil Sharma of Noida, has lodged a complaint with the police stating she was murdered by her husband and four other people over dowry, officials said.

India: Two held for 'raping' woman in UP

Agra (UP), Dec 24 (PTI): Two people have been arrested after an 18-year-old woman alleged that they raped her in a moving car here, police said on Friday.

Krishna (22) and Hemant (22), residents of Etmadpur here, forced the woman to consume liquor and then raped her on December 19. They also filmed the act and threatened her of leaking the video if she revealed the incident, according to her complaint at the Sikandra police station here.

India: Akhilesh promises cheap electricity if voted to power

Lucknow, Dec 24 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday promised regular and cheap power supply for agricultural, domestic and industrial purposes if voted to power in next year's Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

"Had the proposed power plants in Etah and other districts been built, the people of Uttar Pradesh would not have been compelled to buy electricity at the highest rate in the country," his tweet in Hindi targeting the BJP government read.

India: Class 10 student gang-raped in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Dec 25 (PTI) Two people were arrested here for allegedly drugging a Class 10 student and gang-raping her, police said on Saturday.

The minor girl had gone for tuition classes on Thursday from where two people allegedly drugged her and took her to a forest area near Sadpur village, according to a complaint lodged by her family.

Two more people were waiting there and all four allegedly raped her, as per the complaint.

India: Cash recovery of over Rs 150 crore reported from IT raid in Kanpur

Kanpur: Cash recovery of approximately Rs 150 crores from searches in Kanpur at several locations related to Trimurti Fragrance has been reported.

Vivek Johri, the Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs on Friday said that this is the "biggest haul ever".

The teams remained at various premises of businessman Piyush Jain counting cash.

According to media reports, Piyush Jain's son, Pratyush Jain, has been taken into custody by the DGCI officials.
