India: Covid's third wave to peak in Feb 2022: IIT-K researchers

Kanpur; 25 Dec 2021 (UMMN): Researchers from the Indian Institutes of Technology, Kanpur, said that third Covid wave will hit  the country in February 2022.

Scientists urged people not to panic and take necessary precautions for their safety as this wave is likely to be a mild one.

A group of scientists from IIT- Kanpur deployed a statistical methodology on the basis of an algorithm for clustering to estimate the parameters.

India: ATM carrying Rs 8L stolen in UP's Agra

Agra (UP), Dec 24 (PTI) A private bank automated teller machine (ATM) carrying Rs 8.20 lakh was stolen under Tajganj police station limits on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, police said.

According to sources, the ATM kiosk was located just 400 metres away from the police post in Kalal Kheria area.

Agra Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sudhir Kumar Singh told reporters on Friday that the incident took place around 2.45 am and that four teams have been constituted to nab the accused.

India: Cow is mother, sacred to us: PM Modi

Varanasi, Dec 23 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said cow is mother and sacred to many people and those who find this as "sin" don't realise that livelihood of crores of people depends on cattle.

The PM was addressing a rally after inaugurating and laying foundation stones of 27 projects worth Rs 2,095 crore in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, just months ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

India: Medical students create ruckus on Lucknow- Kanpur highway

Kanpur: MBBS First-year students of the Saraswati Medical College created a ruckus accusing the college management of going wrong on their results twice continuously.

They demonstrated by converging on Lucknow- Kanpur highway for two hours.

There was seen long queues of the vehicles queued up on the lane going from Lucknow to Kanpur.

Hasanganj CO helped the students to talk to the college director.

The students remained calm on the written assurance on correcting their results of the examination.

India: Fake Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit busted in Kanpur, two held

Kanpur: The Kanpur police have busted a fake Ayurvedic medicine and chyawanprash manufacturing unit in Naubasta in the Keshav Nagar area.

The arrest of two women has also been taken, according to the news reports.

The police said that the medicines and chyawanprash were prepared and supplied, claiming to increase potency and reduce obesity.

Fake medicines and chyawanprash and packing material from the spot, have been recovered.

One of the gang members, however, managed to flee.

India: Drone manufacturing unit to be set up in UP

Kanpur: UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Considering the value of 'drones' in various fields including disaster relief, agriculture, maintenance of law and order, a concrete action plan should be prepared to establish a drone manufacturing unit in the state."

He also asked the state to prepare its own manual. At present, there are no clear rules for flying drones in the state.

He  further said that the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has issued a policy in this regard. Accordingly, the state government should also prepare drone rules.

India: PM to attend IIT-Kanpur convocation ceremony on 28th

Kanpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited suggestions from students, alumni for its inclusion in his speech at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur convocation ceremony to be held on December 28, as has been reported.

This is clear from his Twitter in this regard.

He writes: I look forward to being at IIT Kanpur on the 28th of this month to address the convocation ceremony.

This is a vibrant institution which has made pioneering contributions towards science and innovation.

I invite everyone to share suggestions.

India: Girl raped by 2 men in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Dec 22 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and the act filmed by two men here, police said on Wednesday.

The victim has identified the accused as Sharif and Talib Hassan. They are absconding, police said.

The girl, in her complaint filed at the Kakroli police station, alleged that the the two men took her to an isolated place and raped her. They also recorded the act on a mobile phone and threatened her of leaking the video if she revealed the matter.

India: Kanpur records minimum temperature at 5 degrees Celsius

Kanpur: The minimum temperature was recorded at 5° Celsius today. Clouds continued throughout the day.

The cold day conditions in isolated pockets over west Uttar Pradesh are likely during next 24 hours and abate thereafter, the weatherman reports.

It is, however, very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

Chances of cold waves from December 22 are very low due to the arrival of two back-to-back western disturbances, the first in Wednesday nigh and the other on December 24.

India: UP cop suspended for justifying bribe in video

Unnao (UP), Dec 20 (PTI) A sub-inspector (SI) was suspended on Monday after a video emerged in which he was allegedly seen justifying taking bribe from people for doing their work.

"If police takes money, it also does the work. Go to some other department, they will take money but they won't do your work," SI Umesh Tripathi, posted at Bighapur Police Station, was reportedly heard saying in the video made during a programme here.

The video was stated to be of November 29, when a police programme was held at a local school.
