Three Palestinians Found Dead In Tunnel Collapse Underneath Border Between Gaza, Egypt: Sources

GAZA, Sept 4 (NNN-PNN) – Three Palestinian men were found dead yesterday, inside a smuggling tunnel underneath the borderline area between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt, medics and a security official said.

Paramedics said, they were informed that three workers, who worked in a smuggling tunnel had been missing since Thursday morning. Paramedics and rescue crews have taken out the three bodies from the tunnel and sent them to hospital, Eyad al-Bozzom, spokesman of the Hamas-run Interior Ministry, said, in a press statement.

Bahrain approves third booster shot of Sputnik V vaccine

DUBAI, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Bahraini authorities have authorised the use of a booster dose of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, the first time the Russian shot has been approved for a third dose, the state-run Bahrain News Agency said on Saturday.

The booster shot was approved for use among all over-18s at least six months after receiving their second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine, the news agency reported.

Bahrain and fellow Gulf state the United Arab Emirates have already approved third booster shots using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Turkey to tighten controls on refugees in big cities: media

ISTANBUL, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Turkey will tighten controls on non-documented refugees in big cities to ease the rising anti-immigrant sentiment among Turkish people, the Milliyet daily reported on Saturday.

Turkish authorities plan to identify migrants living in cities such as Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir but are registered elsewhere in the country and send them back to their places of registration, Milliyet said.

Africa's COVID-19 cases surpass 7.84 mln: Africa CDC

ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 7,844,232 as of Friday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union, said the death toll from the pandemic across the continent stands at 197,986.

Some 7,015,476 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease so far, it was noted.

Iran condemns U.S. sanctions on four Iranians for alleged "kidnapping" charges

TEHRAN, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday condemned recent U.S. sanctions on four Iranian citizens for what he called "fictitious" charges.

On Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced it would sanction four Iranian citizens for an alleged failed plot aimed at kidnapping a U.S.-Iranian New York-based journalist.

"Unfortunately, incumbent U.S. officials are following the failed policy of the previous administration," Saeed Khatibzadeh, the Iranian spokesman, said according to the ministry's website.

Egypt's covid crisis has reached a dangerous level

The state has continued to allow parties and festivals and stopped enforcing closing times on shops, reports Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Collision between train, minibus leaves 6 dead in Turkey

ISTANBUL (AP) — A collision between a freight train and a minibus in northwest Turkey killed six people and injured six others Saturday, Turkish news agency Demiroren reported.

The crash at a railroad crossing in Ergene, Tekirdag province, involved a minibus carrying factory workers and a train headed to nearby Cerkezkoy at 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), the news agency said.

The people who died all were in the minibus, which was dragged in front of the train after the impact. Images showed the crumpled vehicle lying on its roof alongside the train tracks.

High-level Lebanese delegation arrives in Syria to talk fuel

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — A senior Lebanese government delegation arrived in Syria on Saturday for talks expected to focus on the crippling fuel crisis that has paralyzed Lebanon. It marked the highest official visit since Syria’s civil war began more than a decade ago.

Lebanon is expecting a shipment of fuel from Iran, which local media said is to be delivered at a major Syrian port and transported by land. The leader of the Iran-backed Lebanese militant Hezbollah group has arranged with allies in Tehran to ship the fuel to Lebanon to help ease the small country’s fuel shortages.
