Sudan recalls ambassador to Ethiopia after mediation offer rejected

KHARTOUM, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Sudan recalled its ambassador to neighbouring Ethiopia on Sunday, frustrated by the stance of Ethiopian officials whom it said were refusing Sudan's offer to mediate in the ongoing conflict in Tigray.

"Ethiopia will improve its position if it considered what Sudan could do. ..instead of completely rejecting all of its efforts," a statement from the foreign ministry read.

Iran won’t hesitate to respond to any aggression: Envoy

Belgrade, IRNA – Iran’s Embassy in Serbia published a message in response to the Israeli regime Ambassador to Belgrade, saying that Iran would respond to any aggression against its interests and citizens.

In the message that was published on Friday in Serbian media, Iran’s Embassy emphasized that peace and stability has always been a priority for Iran as a country with the longest coast in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Iran: 542 more die of COVID-19 over past 24 hours

Tehran, IRNA - The number of deaths from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran increased to 94,015 with 542 more Iranians killed by the deadly disease over the past 24 hours, Iran's Health Ministry said on Sunday.

Some 542 more Iranians have died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours bringing the total deaths to 94,015, Iran’s Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The Ministry said that 39,619 new cases of infection with the COVID-19 were found over the past 24 hours, 4,102 of whom were hospitalized.

Kuwait to send firefighters to Turkey against forest fires

08 Aug 2021; AA: Kuwait is set to dispatch a team of firefighters to Turkey on Sunday to help in the fight against forest fires that killed at least eight people.

The 45-strong team will be dispatched to Turkey upon orders from Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad to assist in putting out the fires, according to the official news agency KUNA.

KUNA said another team will be sent to Greece on Monday to help in countering the wildfires there.

'Dignity of Iran will be upheld at any cost': Iran embassy in London

07 Aug 2021; MEMO: Iran is ready to defend the dignity of Iranians at any cost, Iran's embassy in London announced on Friday in response to remarks made by the UK's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab that the door to diplomacy is "half-open" with Iran.

"Iran reciprocates respect by deeds and words," the Iranian embassy in London tweeted on Friday. "But, the dignity of Iranians will be upheld at any cost."

Israeli warplanes carry out strikes in Gaza

07 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli fighters have carried out several airstrikes in multiple places on Friday night in the north of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian security sources have reported.

The Israeli bombing targetted a hill in the northern Gazan city of Jabalia, known as the Civil Administration site, where the Palestinian resistance has a military base.

Palestinian sources reported that three Palestinian homes were affected by the Israeli attacks; one was directly hit by large shrapnel.

Bahraini senior diplomat visits Israel for bilateral ties

JERUSALEM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain's Undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Foreign Ministry Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa arrived in Israel on Sunday morning and started his four-day visit.

The Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement that the senior Bahraini diplomat has scheduled meetings with Israel's President Isaac Herzog and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.

"The undersecretary will also meet with various groups representing Israeli civil society, universities and research institutes to strengthen ties between Israel and Bahrain," the statement read.

Turkey confirms 25,100 daily COVID-19 cases

ANKARA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Saturday registered 25,100 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 5,895,841, according to its Health Ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 112 to 52,088, while 6,758 more people recovered in the last 24 hours, said the ministry.

A total of 246,037 tests were conducted over the past day, it said.

Turkey has started mass COVID-19 vaccination on Jan. 14 after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.

Tunisia: Ennahda Movement rejects placing ex-minister under house arrest

08 Aug 2021; MEMO: In a statement published on Friday, the Ennahda Movement expressed its rejection of the illegal procedure of placing former Minister of Transportation and Logistics Anwar Maaroufi under house arrest.

The movement emphasised that it would resort to the Administrative Court to appeal the arbitrary decision, due to its disregard for all conventional legal steps.
