Israel tortured Palestinian detainee to death: Rights group

22 July 2021; MEMO: Palestinian institutions today accused the Israeli authorities of torturing a Palestinian detainee to death, Anadolu Agency reports.

Forty-three-year-old Abdo Al-Khatib was killed yesterday after being tortured during interrogation at the Al-Maskobiya interrogation centre in occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli president reassures Greece of support

22 July 2021; MEMO: Israeli President Isaac Herzog has reassured his Greek counterpart Katerina Sakellaropoulou that Israel continues to side with Greece and Cyprus in their dispute with Turkey, local media have reported. This was despite the recent friendly call between Herzog and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Saudi Arabia sends reinforcements to Aden

22 July 2021; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has sent two planeloads of troops and armoured vehicles to Aden. The military aircraft landed at the southern port city's airport on Monday amid tight security by Saudi forces already stationed there. The troops are reported to have turned off all of the airport lights, said the Yemen Press Agency.

Israel PM freezes settlement construction at the behest of US

22 July 2021; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has refused to allow the Supreme Planning Council to meet, essentially freezing settlement construction following pressure from the US.

According to Israel Hayom said Bennett's decision means a "complete freeze on future construction" of settlements in the West Bank as long as the Supreme Council is prevented from meeting.

It added that the move was a "demand" by US President Joe Biden's administration.

UAE: 2 airplanes collide at Dubai’s main airport; no injuries

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Two passenger jets from low-cost carrier FlyDubai and Bahrain-based Gulf Air collided with each other on the taxiway at Dubai International Airport early Thursday morning, though authorities reported no injuries in the incident.

FlyDubai said one of its Boeing 737-800s heading to Kyrgyzstan found itself affected by ”a minor incident” and forced to return to the stand. It said passengers took a later flight, which departed six hours later.

UNIFIL Opens Probe Into Rocket Fire Exchange Between Lebanon, Israel

BEIRUT, Jul 21 (NNN-NNA) – The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), yesterday announced the launch of an investigation, into the exchange of rocket fire between Lebanon and Israel.

The announcement, by Kandice Ardiel, UNIFIL’s deputy chief of strategic communications and public information, came, after two rockets were launched at Israel from southern Lebanon, last night, triggering an Israeli response with artillery fire into Lebanon.

Iran-Iraq Ties Beneficial To Regional Security, Stability: Iranian President

Israel's National Security Council looking into NSO spyware allegations -source

JERUSALEM, July 21 (Reuters) - Israel has set up a senior inter-ministerial team to look into growing allegations that spyware sold by an Israeli cyber firm has been abused on a global scale, an Israeli source said on Wednesday, while adding that an export review was unlikely.

The team is headed by Israel's National Security Council, which answers to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and has broader areas of expertise than the Defence Ministry, which oversees exports of NSO Group's Pegasus software, the source said.

Saudi Arabia extends resident permits, visas for stranded foreigners

RIYADH, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday that it has extended the resident permits and exit/re-entry visas for the stranded foreigners in countries under the Saudi entry ban due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Citing concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, Saudi Arabia has banned arrivals from nine countries, including Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and Lebanon.

The foreigners with Saudi resident permits or visas are also banned from entering the kingdom if they are currently in the nine countries.

2 soldiers killed, 3 wounded in IS attack in Iraq: source

BAGHDAD, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Two soldiers were killed and three wounded in an attack by militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq's Salahudin province in the north of Baghdad, a provincial police source said on Wednesday.

The attack took place late on Tuesday night when IS militants attacked an army base in the rugged area of Mteibijah in the eastern part of the province, leaving two soldiers killed and three wounded, Col. Mohammed al-Bazi told Xinhua
