Iran's president says 90% enrichment for reactor possible

Tehran, Jul 14 (AP-PTI) Iran's outgoing president on Wednesday warned his country could enrich uranium at weapons-grade levels of 90% if it chose, though it still wanted to save its tattered nuclear deal with world powers.

President Hassan Rouhani's comments, carried by the state-run IRNA news agency, came as he also criticised Iran's wider theocracy for not allowing his government to reach a deal soon to restore the 2015 atomic accord.

Palestine Says Israel Obstructs Efforts To Stabilise Truce In Gaza

RAMALLAH, Jul 11 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine yesterday accused Israel of obstructing efforts to stabilise the truce in the Gaza Strip by tightening the blockade.

In a statement, the Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs, said that, more than two million people in the Gaza Strip “pay heavy prices, due to the endless Israeli blockade, which ruined their daily living.”

“The Israeli blockade has led to sabotaging lives of the Palestinian citizens and declining the level of basic services provided, under the pressure of Israeli delay and extortion,” the statement said.

In first for Gulf, UAE opens embassy in Israel, hails trade ties

TEL AVIV, July 14 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday become the first Gulf state to open an embassy in Israel, as its envoy hailed the trade and investment opportunities that closer ties would bring at a flag-raising ceremony also attended by Israel's president.

Brought together by shared unease about Iran, the UAE and Bahrain normalised relations with Israel last year under the "Abraham Accords" crafted by the administration of then-U.S. President Donald Trump

Sudan and Morocco have since also moved to establish ties with Israel.

UAE: ICC tweaks World Test Championship points system

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The International Cricket Council has tweaked the points system for the next World Test Championship.

Twelve points will be awarded to the winning team of every test match contested in the 2021-23 cycle, with four points awarded for a draw and six for a tied game. The percentage of points won will be used to determine the WTC standings.

EU ambassadors boycott ceremony at US Embassy in Jerusalem

The ceremony was held on 4 July at the US Embassy in Jerusalem, in honour of American Independence Day.

'This is not the time to carry out two-state solution': Israel's FM

13 July 2021; MEMO: Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid stated on Monday that this is not the time to carry out the two-state solution, stressing that Israel should do whatever is needed to "defend itself".

These remarks came as he addressed the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Council meeting, attended by 26 EU foreign ministers with Lapid as the main guest.

"It is no secret that I support a two-state solution," he said, but added: "Unfortunately, there is no current plan for this."

Iran says it is holding talks on prisoner exchanges with U.S.

DUBAI, July 13 (Reuters) - Iran said on Tuesday it was holding talks on prisoner exchanges with the United States aimed at securing the release of Iranians held in U.S. jails and other countries over violations of U.S. sanctions.

"Negotiations are under way on the exchange of prisoners between Iran and America, and we will issue more information if Iranian prisoners are released and the country's interests are secured and the talks reach a conclusion," government spokesman Ali Rabiei said.

Egypt court upholds life sentences for top leaders

12 July 2021; MEMO: Egypt's highest criminal court has upheld the life sentences issued against ten senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood, including the group's Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie. The life sentences were issued over their alleged role in helping foreign militias penetrate the country's eastern border amid the 2011 uprising to create chaos and bring down the Egyptian state and its institutions.
