Iraqi health officials: 58 dead in fire at coronavirus ward

BAGHDAD (AP) — The death toll from a catastrophic blaze that erupted at a coronavirus hospital ward in southern Iraq the previous day rose to 58 on Tuesday, Iraqi medical officials said.

Two health officials said more than 100 people were also injured in the fire that torched the coronavirus ward of al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the city of Nasiriyah on Monday.

Israel announces new measures as part of easing Gaza siege

12 July 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation authorities announced a number of measures on Monday morning as part of easing the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

On the Facebook page of the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Occupied Territories, Israel announced expanding the fishing zone in the Gaza Strip from nine to 12 nautical miles as of Monday.

The coordinator stated that this came following the recent calm and after assessing the general security situation.

Turkey DM calls on Greece to be reasonable, 'logical and fair'

This came in a statement issued to Anadolu Agency yesterday in response to allegations made by his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, who accused Turkey of violating international law and threatening the stability of the region.

In anticipation of the pilgrims, volunteers have helped to clean up the area and removed a fallen boulder from a pathway.

Israel blocks access of relief aid to Bedouin community

The truck was going to the residents of Khirbet Humsah Al-Foqa, a community which was demolished a few days ago by the Israeli forces for the seventh time this year.

Israel to withhold $180m of Palestinian tax funds

12 July 2021; MEMO: Israel will withhold $180 million in tax transfers to the Palestinian Authority (PA) to offset money transfers going to families of Palestinian prisoners and martyrs, the Israeli cabinet announced yesterday.

According to Wafa news agency, the decision to freeze the funds came after a report from Israel's Defence Ministry that the PA transferred $180 million "in indirect support of terrorism in 2020."

BP seeks renewable energy projects in Turkey

12 July 2021; MEMO: Energy giant BP, which has invested more than $500 million in Turkey in the last three years, is looking to focus on renewable energy in the country, local newspaper Sabah reports.

According to the report, BP Turkey Vice President Tumkan Isiltan said: "We have new investments on our radar in Turkey especially in terms of renewables in the age of COVID."
