Lebanon parliament speaker reiterates support for Saad Hariri as PM-designate

23 June 2021; MEMO: Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has reiterated his support for Saad Hariri as Prime Minister-designate, saying Hariri enjoys the support of his sect, Lebanon's Dar Al-Fatwa and members of the parliament.

Speaking to Annahar newspaper, Berri said his initiative to form a government is still in place, and he will not back down unless another acceptable initiative is proposed.

Sudan PM urges unity of military factions

23 June 2021; MEMO: Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok yesterday announced an initiative to unify the factions steering the country through its transition phase following the ouster of long time dictator Omar Al-Bashir.

Local media reported Hamdok warning of "deeply worrying" fractures within the country's security forces yesterday, and calling for reconciliation between civilians and military political factions who make up the transitional government.

Dubai incurs $4.2bn in losses in 2020

23 June 2021; MEMO: The Investment Corporation of Dubai, the principal investment arm of the government of Dubai, incurred 15.5 billion dirhams ($4.2 billion) in losses in 2020, new data revealed yesterday.

Statistics published by the corporation showed that revenues fell 40.3 per cent in 2020 on an annual basis to 136.1 billion dirhams ($37.1 billion).

Sheikh Jarrah: extremist parliamentarians storm Palestinian homes

23 June 2021; MEMO: Two extremist members of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, raided the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah on Tuesday afternoon and told three Palestinian families that they had to leave their homes, Wafa news agency has reported. The two MKs were Bezalel Smotrich and Orit Strock from the far-right Religious Zionism Party, accompanied by a number of illegal Jewish settlers and protected by Israeli police officers.

Iranian media: ‘sabotage attack’ on nuclear building foiled

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — An Iranian news site close to security services says that authorities have thwarted a “sabotage attack” on the country’s civilian nuclear program, without providing further information.

Nournews, a website believed to be close to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, reported Wednesday that the attack was foiled “before causing any damage to the building.” It said the case was “under investigation.”

US takes down Iran-linked news sites, alleges disinformation

Syria’s Assad meets with Russian Deputy PM Borisov in Damascus

Two Killed, Six Injured In Egypt’s Train-Bus Collision: Ministry

CAIRO, Jun 22 (NNN-MENA) – Two people were killed and six others injured yesterday, in a train-bus collision, in Helwan City, near the capital, Cairo, Egyptian Health Ministry said, in a statement.

The injuries were minor and varied between fractures and bruises, spokesperson for the ministry, Khaled Mujahid, said in a statement, adding that, 16 ambulances rushed to the scene to evacuate the injured.

Mujahid confirmed that all the injured are receiving necessary treatment at hospitals.
