Southern Israeli City Detects Traces Of Indian Delta Variant In Sewer System

JERUSALEM, Jun 25 (NNN-PNN) – Traces of the Delta COVID-19 variant have been detected in the sewer system of the southern Israel’s coastal city of Ashkelon, the Israeli Ministry of Health said yesterday.

This result raised concerns that certain residents in the city have been infected with the variant, the ministry said in a statement.

Following the detection, the ministry called on anyone suffering from fever, cough and weakness, or fearing of being infected, to take a test as soon as possible, to prevent an outbreak in the city, which has more than 140,000 residents.

Iraq Signs Agreement With UAE Company To Produce Renewable Energy

BAGHDAD, Jun 25 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Oil Minister, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, announced yesterday, the signing of an agreement with Masdar, a renewable energy developer, based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to establish a solar energy project in central and southern Iraq.

Ismail, who is also chairman of the Iraqi Ministerial Council for Energy, attended the signing ceremony between the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and Masdar, to generate 2,000 megawatts, said a statement by the media office of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil.

Egypt receives first batch of Russia's covid vaccine

25 June 2021; MEMO: Egypt yesterday received the first consignment of 210,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine.

The state-run Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement and Medical Supplies said in a statement that the doses had come as part of a "deal signed in May between the two countries to acquire 2 million doses of the Russian vaccine."

Tunisia will not accept foreign military base, insists president

25 June 2021; MEMO: Tunisian President Kais Saied has said that he will not accept the presence of any foreign troops or military base in his country. He made his comment in a speech delivered on the 65th anniversary of the foundation of Tunisia's National Armed Forces.

This comes weeks after Defence Minister Imed Hazgui said that Tunisia refuses to use its territory to conduct military operations or to establish foreign military units or bases.

Iraq deports thousands of foreign workers

25 June 2021; MEMO: The Iraqi government announced yesterday that it has deported thousands of foreign workers, Anadolu has reported. Moreover, 400 private sector companies have been referred to the judiciary for not complying with a decision to localise the workforce.

"Thousands of foreign workers whose residency was illegal and affected Iraqi employment opportunities have been deported," said Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Adel Al-Rikabi.
