Covid-19: Saudi Arabia to lift travel curbs on ‘immunised’ citizens

RIYADH, May 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Saudi Arabia will permit citizens immunised against Covid-19 to travel abroad from May 17, the interior ministry said, more than a year after Saudis were barred from external trips.

The ministry said three categories of people would be considered immunised — those who have received two doses of the coronavirus vaccine, those administered a single dose at least 14 days prior to travel, and people who have recovered from the infection within the last six months.

Turkey arrests Daesh leader with links to former leader Al-Baghdadi

03 May 2021; MEMO: The Turkish police and intelligence agency announced on Sunday the arrest of a close aide of the late leader of the Daesh extremist group Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Turkish police in Istanbul revealed in a statement that the Afghan national had been detained in the Atasehir district on the Asian side of Istanbul city on Wednesday.

Israeli state watchdog to investigate religious festival stampede

(Reuters) --- Israel's government watchdog said on Monday it would open an investigation into the deaths of 45 people crushed in a stampede at a Jewish religious festival last week.

State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman said his office, which audits the government, would look into the circumstances surrounding the event at Mount Meron in the Galilee region.

"I wish to announce today that I intend to open a special audit that will investigate the circumstances that led to this tragedy," he told reporters.

Tunisian gov't vows all means to avoid oxygen shortage in hospitals

TUNIS, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi said on Sunday that all means will be provided for the health ministry to avoid oxygen shortage in the country's hospitals.

During his visit to the ministry, Mechichi chaired a meeting dedicated to examining practical solutions for overcoming the lack of medical oxygen in hospitals.

The Tunisian government head called for solutions by importing oxygen from neighboring countries, according to a government statement.

Israel court givesPalestine: Sheikh Jarrah families until Thursday to reach deal with settlers

03 May 2021; MEMO: The Israeli Supreme Court on Sunday gave four Palestinian families from Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood until Thursday to reach a deal with Israeli Jewish settlers regarding the ownership of their homes, Al Jazeera reported.

The deal proposed by the court requires the Palestinian families to pay the Israeli settlers to rent their homes until the current owners pass away and then assign the properties to the settlers, not to their heirs.

Palestine: Noticeable decline in COVID-19 cases, deaths

01 May 2021; MEMO: COVID-19 cases and deaths in the occupied Palestinian territories have sharply declined in recent days, officials from the Ministry of Health in Gaza and the West Bank confirmed on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip recorded 664 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths, with 171 cases and four deaths in the West Bank and 493 cases and four deaths in the Gaza strip.

Turkey forces detect tunnel dug from Syria

01 May 2021; MEMO: Turkish Border guards detected a tunnel dug from Syria to Turkey, said the country's National Defence Ministry on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reports.

"Thanks to the vigilance of our heroic border guards in [the southern] Hatay province, it was found that a tunnel was dug from Syria to Turkey," the ministry said on Twitter.

A generator, two hammer drills, a wheelbarrow, 300-meter cable, digger, shovel, and battery used in the excavation work were seized, it said.

UN sends 65 truckloads of aid to Idlib in northwest Syria

02 May 2021; MEMO: The UN on Thursday sent 65 truckloads of humanitarian aid to Syria's northwestern Idlib province, Anadolu Agency reported.

The trucks crossed into Idlib through the Cilvegozu border gate in Turkey's southern Hatay province, according to UN officials in the province.

People in need residing in Idlib and its surrounding areas will receive the relief materials.
