Philippines President Hosts The International Forum For “Labour Mobility And Human Rights”

RIYADH, Apr 21 (NNN-SPA) – In response to an invitation from the government of The Philippines, in hosting the international forum on “Labour Mobility and Human Rights,” Saudi’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD), participated as a keynote speaker in the forum, held yesterday. HRSD was represented by the Control Deputy Minister, Satam Al Harbi.

Iran, Pakistan open 3rd cross-border point to boost trade exchanges

TEHRAN, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Pakistan on Wednesday opened the third cross-border point to enhance trade exchanges, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The Pishin-Mand border crossing, located on the border of Iran's southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan with Pakistan, was opened for trade exchanges, the report said.

Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami and Pakistan's Minister for Defense Production Zubaida Jalal Khan attended the opening ceremony, according to the report.

Assad applies to run for Syrian presidential elections

DAMASCUS, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday applied to run for the Syrian presidential elections slated for May, according to the state news agency SANA.

Hamoudeh al-Sabbagh, the Syrian parliament speaker, said that so far, six people, including a woman, have applied to take part in the presidential race, and more people are expected to apply in the coming days.

The election campaign start as of April 19 for 10 days.

First batch of COVID vaccines lands in opposition-held Syria

IDLIB, Syria (AP) — Syria’s last rebel-held enclave received its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines on Wednesday, with a refrigerated truck offloading over 50,000 of United Nations-secured jabs in the overcrowded province.

The AstraZeneca vaccines were delivered to Idlib province through a border crossing with Turkey, the northwestern territory’s only gateway to the outside world. Idlib health official Yasser Najib said jabs were provided through the UN-led COVAX program for the world’s poorest nations.

Erdogan replaces Turkey trade minister, forms 2 new ministries

 21 Apr 2021; MEMO: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed a prominent member of Turkey's ruling AK Party, Mehmet Mus, as trade minister today and split the Family, Labour and Social Policies Ministry into two ministries, Reuters reported.

In a presidential decree, Ruhsar Pekcan was replaced as trade minister by Mus, who has been a lawmaker for Erdogan's AK Party since 2011 and served as the party's deputy chairman in charge of the economy.

Egypt buys 20m doses of China covid vaccine

20 Apr 2021; MEMO: Egypt has agreed to purchase 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by China's Sinopharm and expects to receive a batch of 500,000 shots this month, Reuters reported its Ministry of Health said today.

The agreement boosts vaccination efforts in Egypt, which has a population of 101 million and has so far received a total of just over 1.5 million doses of Sinopharm and of the AstraZeneca shot.

Iran welcomes Iraqi mediation with Gulf states

20 Apr 2021; MEMO: Iran said on Tuesday it welcomes Iraqi mediation to help mend its ties with Gulf Arab states, following reports that Saudi and Iranian officials had held discussions in Iraq, Reuters reported.

The remarks by the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad came a day after Iran's foreign ministry said that Tehran always welcomed dialogue with its arch-rival Saudi Arabia, without confirming that talks had been held.

Israel starts military exercises along Jordan border

 21 Apr 2021; MEMO:The Israel Defence Forces started military exercises along the border with Jordan yesterday, the Israeli defence ministry has announced.

The ministry's Crossing Authority said that the training would take place at the Jordan Valley crossing. "The training will require the closure of Route 90 intermittently, and gunfire and explosions will be heard in the area," it added.
