Israel military prepare bank of targets in Gaza

17 Apr 2021; MEMO: The Israeli army has revealed a plan including simultaneous attacks on hundreds of targets in Gaza based on a prepared bank of targets, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported on Friday.

According to the London-based newspaper, this was revealed after a series of Israeli strikes had been carried out in various areas of the besieged Gaza Strip.

Iraq invites 75 states, bodies to monitor elections

17 Apr 2021; MEMO: The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has invited 75 states and bodies to monitor the country's snap elections slated for 10 October, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Jumana Al-Ghalai, spokesperson for the IHEC, explained that that the invitations were coordinated with the Foreign Ministry, noting that they were sent to embassies of Arab and foreign countries, in addition to offices of international organisations.

Israel prevents non-vaccinated Palestinians from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque

17 Apr 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation authorities have prevented thousands of Palestinian worshippers from the occupied West Bank from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque on the first Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Arab48 reported.

According to the news website, the Israeli authorities set a condition for the worshippers from the occupied territories to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to obtain access to the Muslim holy site.

Incident at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility triggered by explosive brought inside

TEHRAN, April 17. /TASS/: The incident at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility occurred after an explosive device brought inside went off, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) reported on Saturday, citing the data of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the country’s Majlis (parliament).

The explosion partially damaged the centrifuges’ power supply system. There are no data about any cyberattack, it said.

At least 40 migrants drown in shipwreck off Tunisia

TUNIS, April 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least 40 migrants drowned in a shipwreck off Tunisia as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to Italy, United Nations and Tunisian officials said.

The Tunisian coastguard had so far recovered 21 bodies, all African migrants, and rescued three people, Tunisian officials said. The dead included at least one child.

Israel Detects Seven Cases Of New COVID-19 Variant

JERUSALEM, Apr 17 (NNN-MA’AN) – Seven cases of a new “double mutant” variant of COVID-19 were detected in Israel, the country’s Ministry of Health said yesterday.

This is the B.1.617 variant, that was recently identified in India, and now it has been detected for the first time in Israel.

The seven cases were diagnosed by genetic sequencing tests, in unvaccinated Israelis that returned from abroad, the ministry noted.

“There is still no clear information regarding the variant and its implications for the vaccinated and the recovered,” the ministry added.

Lebanese PM-designate supported by Russia in forming cabinet: statement

BEIRUT, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that Russia supports Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri in forming cabinet, a statement released by Hariri's office reported.

"Russia supports PM Hariri's efforts to form a cabinet capable of dealing with the current crisis and receiving support from Arab and foreign countries," Lavrov was quoted as saying during his meeting with Hariri.
