Turkey hands over military barracks to Somalia

06 Mar 2021; MEMO: Turkey handed over military barracks to Somalia today, according to an official statement, Anadolu Agency reports.

"As part of restructuring the Somali Armed Forces, the Northern Barracks – 1st Stage Facilities built by Turkey in Mogadishu were handed over to the [Somali] authorities," Turkey's National Defence Ministry said on Twitter.

Saudi-led coalition destroys 2 drones targeting Kingdom

06 Mar 2021; MEMO: The Saudi Arabian-led coalition in Yemen said it destroyed two explosives-laden drones fired by Yemen's Houthi group toward southern Saudi territories, a Saudi-run television said today, Anadolu Agency reports.

Al-Arabiya TV said the coalition announced that the Houthis in Yemen targeted Khamis Mushait and Jazan.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarei said the drones targeted King Khalid Air Base in the Khamis Mushait area.

Turkey only aims to protect its rights: Erdogan

06 Mar 2021; MEMO: Turkey is only aiming to protect its rights and territories and does not have any other ulterior motives, said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on today, Anadolu Agency reports.

Attending the Blue Homeland 2021 tactical exercise via video link, Erdogan said Turkey is testing its "domestic and national" weapon systems.

Israel's Arabs rise up against organised crime, police complicity

06 Mar 2021; MEMO: Tens of thousands of Arabs in Israel marched on the northern city Um Al Fahem city on Friday to protest against spiralling levels crime in their communities.

Um Al Fahem residents have been holding weekly demonstrations against violence and organised crime for the past two months. Yesterday's turnout was, however, significantly higher.

Some reporters described Friday's protest as the largest staged by Palestinians in Israel since the 1980s.

Israel approves 3rd-phase exit from full lockdown

JERUSALEM, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli cabinet on Saturday approved the third phase of the exit plan from the full lockdown imposed in the country on Dec. 27, 2020, the Prime Minister's Office and the Health and Transport Ministries said in a joint statement.

As part of the decision, the ban on the entry of Israelis to the country was cancelled, but no more than 3,000 will be allowed to enter per day.

Iraq, Iran call for enhancing regional security, stability

BAGHDAD, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday called for enhancing security and stability of the region.

A statement by al-Kadhimi media office said al-Kadhimi received a phone call from Rouhani, in which they discussed means to develop bilateral relations at various levels and praised the efforts to enhance security and stability of the region.

The two leaders called on "all actors in the region to enhance calm through wisdom in dealing with regional crises and challenges," the statement said.

Iran’s FM Slams U.S. Continued “Maximum Pressure” Amid COVID-19

TEHRAN, Mar 6 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, denounced yesterday, the U.S. continued sanctions against Iran, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Even amid COVID-19, the U.S. continues to exert Trump’s failed ‘maximum pressure’ on Iranians. Isn’t it time to try something that may actually work?” Zarif wrote on social media.

The Iranian diplomat posted the image of a 6-year-old Iranian girl, who was affected by the U.S. sanctions, as well as, a complaint made by her.
