Hamas Says Israeli Captives Only, To Be Exchanged For Palestinian Prisoners

GAZA, Oct 19 (NNN-WAFA) – Hamas said, Israeli captives in the Gaza Strip will only be exchanged, for the release of Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails.

Hamas, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip, home for more than two million Palestinians, since 2007, said in a press statement that, Israel “must understand that a prisoners’ swap deal is the only way that can bring its captive soldiers back.”

Iran president focusing on domestic rather than foreign policies

Israel approves budget of $1.5bn to prepare for attack on Iran

According to Israeli Channel 12 TV, NIS 3bn will come from the current budget, with the balance coming from the new budget slated for approval in November.

Lebanon goes to polls in March as economic meltdown spirals

BEIRUT, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Lebanon's parliament voted on Tuesday to hold legislative elections on March 27, giving Prime Minister Najib Mikati's government only a few months to try to secure an IMF recovery plan amid a deepening economic meltdown.

Lebanon's financial crisis, which the World Bank labelled one of the deepest depressions of modern history, had been compounded by political deadlock for over a year before Mikati put together a cabinet alongside President Michel Aoun.

India FM hails Israel as 'most trusted partner'

19 Oct 2021; MEMO: Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, hailed Israel as their "most trusted and innovative partner," during yesterday's meeting with US, Indian and Israeli business leaders and government officials.

"The degree of trust between us is very high," said India's top diplomat, as he encouraged increasing trade ties between the countries during the business meeting at Jerusalem's King David Hotel.

Iran's Raisi says nuclear talks with major powers should be result-oriented

18 Oct 2021; MEMO: Iran backs talks with six major powers that are result-oriented, Iranian hard-line President Ebrahim Raisi said on Monday, as Tehran and six powers struggled to overcome snags in the resumption of negotiations to revive a 2015 nuclear deal, Reuters reports.

"We are serious about result-oriented negotiations  …  the unjust US sanctions imposed on Iran must be lifted," Raisi told state TV.

Egypt sentences TV anchors to 15 years in jail for 'Brotherhood ties'

19 Oct 2021; MEMO: Egypt's Zagazig Criminal Court in Sharqiya yesterday sentenced TV presenters Moataz Matar and Hossam Al Shorbagy to 15 years in prison each in absentia for contempt of court and joining the banned Muslim Brotherhood.

Matar, a presenter on Al Sharq TV, and Al Shorbagy, who works at Mekameleen, were referred to trial in November 2019 after they accused a judge of misusing his judicial authority and position.

Saudi, US take part in joint naval exercise in Red Sea

19 Oct 2021; MEMO: The naval forces of Saudi Arabia and the US have kicked off a joint maritime exercise in the Red Sea, aimed at strengthening relations and military cooperation between the two countries.

The "Indigo Defender-21" exercise, which will last for 10 days, was launched yesterday in the presence of Rear Admiral, Mansour Bin Saud Al-Junaid, the Assistant commander of the Kingdom's Western Fleet and Naval Colonel, Daniel Bailey, of the US Navy.
