Malaysian FM to attend ASEAN Coordinating council, Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Jakarta

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Feb 2 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, will lead the country’s delegation to the 32nd ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting and ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ (AMM) Retreat from Feb 3 to 4, 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Indonesia helms the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023 with the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”.

The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement Thursday said Indonesia is expected to brief the meetings on its proposed key priorities and deliverables for 2023.

Space power China to build ground stations on Antarctica to support satellites

BEIJING, Feb 2 (Reuters) - China, only the third country to put a man in space after the Soviet Union and United States, is to build ground stations on Antarctica to back its network of ocean monitoring satellites, state media said on Thursday.

North Korea says U.S. drills threaten to turn region into 'critical war zone'

SEOUL, Feb 2 (Reuters) - North Korea said on Thursday that drills by the United States and its allies have reached an "extreme red-line" and threaten to turn the peninsula into a "huge war arsenal and a more critical war zone."

The Foreign Ministry statement, carried by state news agency KCNA, said Pyongyang was not interested in dialogue as long as Washington pursues hostile policies.

Philippines grants U.S. greater access to bases amid China concerns

MANILA, Feb 2 (Reuters) - The Philippines has granted the United States greater access to its military bases, their defence chiefs said on Thursday, amid mounting concern over China's increasing assertiveness in the disputed South China Sea and tension over self-ruled Taiwan.

The United States would be given access to four more locations under the 2014 Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Philippines' Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez said in a joint news conference at the Philippine military headquarters in Manila.

2 missing after cargo ships collide off western Japan

TOKYO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Japanese cargo ship sank in the Seto Inland Sea off the western prefecture of Ehime on Thursday after colliding with another cargo vessel, leaving two crew members missing, the coast guard here said.

According to the Imabari Coast Guard Office, the 716-ton cargo ship Seiryu collided with the 499-ton Koei Maru off the coast of Imabari City of Ehime Prefecture at around 19:30 local time.

US to widen military presence in Philippines amid China fear

PIA further slashes round trip fare on flights between China-Pakistan

BEIJING, Feb 1 (APP): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has further reduced round trip fare for passengers travelling on its flights operating from China to Pakistan with immediate effect.

The new round trip fare from Beijing-Islamabad-Beijing and Chengdu-Islamabad-Chengdu will now be RMB 7,915. It will greatly facilitate those passengers living in China who plan to travel to Pakistan for business, work or to meet their families during holidays, a senior official told APP here on Wednesday.
