Malaysia, Japan agree to upgrade relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia and Japan has agreed for the Strategic Partnership between the two countries to be upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, said Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Saifuddin said in order to coordinate the upgrade, Malaysia has started discussions at the official level by identifying areas of cooperation for the benefit of both countries.

Japan's H1 excess mortality highest since COVID-19 pandemic, research estimates

TOKYO, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of excess deaths in Japan was estimated to have reached between 17,000 and 46,000 in the first six months of the year, the highest figure since the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, local research data showed.

The estimates were compiled by organizations including the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, an institution under the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

Philippine ex-senator briefly held hostage in jail rampage

Malaysia fully committed towards achieving objective of CPTPP

SINGAPORE, Oct 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia is fully committed towards achieving the objective of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in deepening regional economic integration and building upon the rule base multilateral trading system.

Japanese FM to visit Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Oct 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah will host his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi during his two-day working visit to Malaysia starting Saturday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this is Hayashi’s first visit to Malaysia since being appointed as Japan’s Foreign Affairs Minister in November 2021.

Both ministers are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting to review the progress in furthering the long-standing and multi-faceted ties between Malaysia and Japan.

Cambodian King dismisses agriculture minister

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Saturday signed a royal decree to sack Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon from his post.

In the royal decree, the king said, "Veng Sakhon is dismissed from the post of the minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries."

"Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, must take responsibility to implement this royal decree from the day of signature," the king said.

North Korea says US carrier’s return aggravates tensions

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea warned Saturday the U.S. redeployment of an aircraft carrier near the Korean Peninsula is causing a “considerably huge negative splash” in regional security, as it defended its recent missile tests as a “righteous reaction” to intimidating military drills between its rivals.
