Cambodia To Appoint Foreign Minister As ASEAN Chair’s New Envoy To Myanmar

PHNOM PENH, Dec 15 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, said today that, he would name the country’s Foreign Minister, Prak Sokhonn, as the ASEAN chair’s new special envoy to Myanmar.

Cambodia will be the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2022.

Sokhonn will succeed the bloc’s current ASEAN special envoy, Brunei’s Second Foreign Minister, Erywan bin Pehin Yusof.

Lithuanian diplomats leave China as relations sour over Taiwan

BEIJING/VILNIUS, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Lithuania's diplomatic delegation to China left the country on Wednesday in a hastily arranged exit, diplomatic sources said, as relations soured further over Taiwan, which opened a de facto embassy in Vilnius last month.

Beijing, which has stepped up pressure on countries to sever relations with the island, downgraded diplomatic ties with Lithuania in November after Taiwan openeda representative office in the Baltic state's capital. 

China adjusts tariffs on imported commodities

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China will implement provisional tariffs that are lower than the most-favored-nation rates on 954 imported commodities, according to a circular issued by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council on Wednesday.

The adjustment, involving commodities including cancer drugs, aquatic products and baby clothing, will take effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

The 954 products also include ski gear, artworks, auto parts that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, high-voltage cables for high-speed trains, and fuel-cell components.

China's carbon market sees trading volume top 100 million tonnes

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's carbon trading market saw its total trading volume surpass 100 million tonnes, the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange said Wednesday.

The carbon market reported a total of 107 million tonnes in trading volume and 4.43 billion yuan (about 695 million U.S. dollars) in turnover as of the end of trading on Wednesday, the 102nd trading day since its operation on July 16.

China moves to stabilize production, supply chains amid latest COVID outbreak

HANGZHOU, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in east China's Zhejiang are making all-out efforts to contain the latest COVID-19 outbreak while mitigating its impact on manufacturing and business activities.

The Chinese mainland Tuesday reported 50 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, of which 45 were in Zhejiang Province, said the National Health Commission (NHC). The province had registered 235 confirmed locally transmitted cases as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, in the latest resurgence since Dec. 5.

Myanmar public urges gas sanctions to stop military funding

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — The young woman in Myanmar decided to speak out when she realized that money from the company she loved was now in the hands of the military leaders she hated.

She and her parents had long worked for Total Energies, the French company that operates a lucrative gas field off the coast of southern Myanmar with a state-owned enterprise. But in February, the military took over Myanmar’s government and its bank accounts, including those that receive hundreds of millions of dollars each year from the Total gas field, known as Yadana.

COVID-19 rattles major Chinese manufacturing province

SHANGHAI, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Multiple companies have suspended operations in one of China's biggest and busiest manufacturing hubs as authorities double down to contain a COVID-19 outbreak, halting some production of goods from batteries and clothing to textile dyes and plastics.

Zhejiang has reported 217 locally transmitted cases with confirmed symptoms in just eight days since the first case on Dec. 6. Prior to the current outbreak, it had reported just one local case this year.
